Karachi - 7 October 1998

MQM CALLS UPON THE PEOPLE OF SINDH IN GENERAL AND THE MQM WORKERS IN PARTICULAR TO REMAIN DETERMINED TO CONTINUE THEIR POLITICAL STRUGGLE IN THE WAKE OF THE TRAGIC TARGETED KILLINGS OF FIVE MQM WORKERS ON 5 OCTOBER 1998

The members of the Central Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) including its three deputies, Senator Aftab Ahmed Shiekh, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, MNA and Senator Nasreen Jalil expressed their gratitude to the people of Sindh including the righteous Punjabis, Sindhis, Pakhtoons, Balochis, Mohajirs, Saraiki and Kashmiris for their total support in the observance of the "Day of Mourning" on the tragic targeted killings of the MQM workers in Karachi on 5th. October 1998 in two separate incidents in Karachi. The gory crime of the cold blooded targeted murders were committed by the State sponsored and patronised terrorists "Haqiqis" in the protection of the Intelligence Agencies who chased and intercepted the car of Amir Zaki, who was travelling with other MQM workers and shot them mercilessly killing two of the incumbents on the spot while the third one died in the hospital. In a separate incident, another MQM worker was shot dead while sitting in his General Store.

The members of the Co-ordination Committee said that it was manifest that this dastardly act conducted on the pattern of Nazi atrocities was committed by trained and professional killers with a view to further the State sponsored campaign to eliminate the dedicated party workers so that politically the party is unable to function and that ordinary people are terrorised to peacefully attend and assemble under the MQM political platform. They said that such cowardly acts carry with it the cogent evidence that the State Intelligence Agencies and its sponsored terrorists "Haqiqis", "Back" and other hired groups directly and indirectly are relentlessly engaged in an evil campaign to dismember both the party and its rank and file by the use of most havoc producing massacres. These massacres, however, would not achieve these malicious designs since the MQM had already suffered the most ravaging State terrorism since 19th. June 1992 when the Army Operation was launched against the party in particular and Mohajirs in general and yet survived with renewed vigour and strength since it was blessed with the solid support of the millions of Mohajirs in the urban centres of Sindh, southern Pakistan and of other down trodden and middle class people of other ethno-linguistic and cultural nationalities all over Pakistan.

The members of the Co-ordination Committee express their gratitude for the total support for the observance of the "Day of Mourning" on 7th. October 1998 that brought the entire Sindh, urban and rural including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas to a grinding halt said that history of all brave peoples and nations bears eloquent testimony that the brutality of this nature is unable to deplete their courage and tenacity. Indeed, such people are prepared to undergo such sacrifices since such tragedies only lay the foundations of more vigour and energetic struggle by them to attain their rightful place in the world by liberating themselves from the bondage and slavery of the feudal oligarchy in Pakistan to establish a true and liberal democracy to achieve "good governance" for the first time in the country which has been deliberately kept deprived by the feudal oligarchy and other rulers, who have ruled Pakistan since its inception.

The members of the Co-ordination Committee in conclusion said that all those millions of people who have been greatly saddened and shakened by this dreadful targeted killings should resolve with dedication to continue the struggle for which already thousands of Mohajirs and other Haq Parast people have given their lives in order to achieve the political and constitutional goals of the party.

And finally, the members of the Co-ordination Committee demanded of the Prime Minister to arrest the killers of the MQM office bearers and workers and give them a swift and exemplary punishment.
