Senator Aftab Sheikh's Report on missing MQM workers in one week

KARACHI: The Chairman Senate Inspection Committee, Senator Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, deputed to examine the registers and lock-ups to trace the 28 missing MQM workers, will submit his report to theprime minister and Senate Secretary within one week.

The committee was constituted by the Senate Secretary when the family members of these 28 missingpersons had staged a demonstration before the Parliament. Senator Aftab Ahmed Sheikh told this to TheNews Media after holding a meeting at Qasr-e-Naz on Friday to examine registers. He was assisted by the deputy secretaries Senate Shahid Siddiqi, Karamat Niazi and Sher Mohammed Baloch.

Senator Sheikh said that he would suggest to the prime minister that senior police officials of that time were trying tosave the police officials responsible in this regard. He said that he would also suggest to the prime ministerthat the same third degree method be adopted with these police officials for obtaining confession which theyhad adopted for extracting confession from common citizens. This was the only way out for the confession,he stressed.

"The persons responsible for the crime are in front of me but I do not have the tool or power to obtainconfession of the crime," he added. The meeting believed to be the last one in this regard, Aftab said,continued for more than three hours and will continue tomorrow, adding that the records from Edhi and hospitals had also been called so that entries of injured and killed be examined.
