Sindh to amend Local Govt Ordinance: minister

HYDERABAD: Sindh Local Government Minister Mohammed Hussain has said that the government would amend the local government ordinance to remove the complications in terms of finance, function and other issues being faced by representatives.

Addressing to the members of district and Taluka councils, the minister said that the government had asked the Nazims and others to send their recommendations to the provincial secretariat by June 5. He said that after the deliberation, the government had fixed honorarium for Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors and added that minority members and lady councillors would also be given this facility.

He said that according to the notification, Taluka Nazims would be given Rs 15,000, Naib Nazim Rs 10,000, UC Nazim Rs 5,000 and councillors Rs 1000. He said that the local government system was very important to stabilised the democratic institutions and democratic system of the country besides for the progress and development. He alleged that bureaucracy weakened and destabilised the governments to get their nefarious aims and added that due to this practice the democratic institutions could not get progress.

Mohammed Hussain said that this had been planned earlier by the government therefore the public representatives were given more powers to deal such kind of situation and resolve public issues. He said that 18 months had passed since the system was put in place and added still the people were facing multifarious problem in it, which were being removed by government.

He said that various councillor had complaint him that they had no power to do any thing in their areas despite the fact that the people favoured them to remove their grievances. He said that branches of provincial local commission would be established in very district so that the matters regarding Tehsils , union councils, audits would be improved.

He said that the government was also establishing district coordination committees and added that MNAs, MPAs and other would be inducted into it to carry out future planning regarding the development of the province. District Nazim, Makhdoom Rafik Zaman, Naib Nazim, Nawab Rashid and others were also present on the occasion.
