Drive against transporters charging extra fare initiated

KARACHI: Sindh Transport Minister, Mohammed Adil Siddiqui on Saturday launched a campaign against transporters charging extra fare from passengers. The minister went to Liaquatabad and Karimabad to get first hand information from the commuters about transport fares. During random checking, he got back the extra money charged by bus conductors from the passengers. Talking to commuters, the minister said the government would not allow or give any concession to the transporters charging fares arbitrarily. The commuters expressed surprise and pleasure over the presence of the minister to check fares being charged by the transporters. The minister assured the commuters that the alleged transport mafia would not be allowed to extort money from the poor passengers. He warned the transporters of strict action if they continued illegal practices. He expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance of police and transport department for failure to provide some relief to general public.
