Mohammad Jehangir Quadri 20, s/o Mohammad Fazal Quadri resident of House No. A/1, Sector 13-G, Mohammad Ali Gabol Colony, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 130, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. At about 4.30 a.m. Police raided his house and arrested him. He is being kept at the Orangi Extension Police Station and is undergoing heavy torture.

CORDON OFF OPERATION
28 January 1996
Today at 4:00 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police surrounded the adjoining areas of 33-C, 33-D, Korangi No. 2, Karachi. During this operation they ransacked the houses and arrested more than 20 innocent Mohajirs. They have rounded up more than 60 Mohajirs from Nazimabad, Gulbahar, Malir, Liaquatabad, North Karachi and Korangi, Karachi during a midnight operation.

At about 3 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police sieged the areas of 5/8 Paposhnagar, Nazimabad, Karachi. During the operation they ransacked the houses, harassed the local residents and arrested more than 15 Mohajirs.

Tariq Bin Salem 27, s/o Salem, resident of 37-B Area, Landhi No. 1, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 89, Sector Landhi. On the night around 2:30 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers raided his hiding place at Qasbah Colony and arrested him.

Around 3:30 p.m. the Police Personnel raided the house of an MQM worker Sadiq Ali at Liaquatabad No.1 and arrested him from the neighbour's house of his Paternal Uncle along with his cousin and his brother and escorted to an unknown place. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1- Sadiq Ali, 19, unmarried, s/o Syed Tahir Ali resident of 510 / 1, Liaquatabad No.1, Karachi, an active worker of the MQM Unit-165, Sector, Liaquatabad. 2- Sajid Ali , 20, unmarried, s/o Syed Tahir Ali resident of 510 / 1, Liaquatabad No.1, Karachi, a sympathiser of the MQM Unit-165, Sector, Liaquatabad. 3- Irshad Ali, 35, married, s/o Syed Ishaque Ali resident of 511 / 1, Liaquatabad No.1, Karachi, a sympathiser ( Cousin of Sadiq Ali, a worker of the MQM Unit-165, Sector, Liaquatabad.) of the MQM Unit-165, Sector, Liaquatabad.

CORDON OFF OPERATION
26 January 1996
The Law Enforcement Agencies during a cordon off operation arrested the MQM sympathisers from and around Jhanda Chowk Liaquatabad, Gul Bai School, K.M.C. near Rahmania Mosque. The details of those arrested are: Javed, Parvez and Nasim arrested from Javed Medical Store.

Rahmat Ali of Liaquatabad, a sympathiser of the MQM was arrested and admitted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a critical condition by the Police around 4:00 p.m.

At about 10 a.m. armed PPP terrorists led by General Secretary of the PPP Haroon Soomro stormed and completely ransacked the premises including the office records as well the MQM Sector office at Station Road, Shahdadkot. They were protected by the Police Personnel during the whole operation. Besides the above operation the Law Enforcement Agencies raided the houses of the Former Sector Incharge Habibullah Khan Lodhi, Deputy Sector Incharge Abid Hussain Pathan and an Incharge of the women wing Dr. Shazia Hasan. During the whole operation they ransacked the houses, abused the family members and particularly misbehaved with females.

Nek Mohammad 35, s/o Ismail, resident of Sector No. 1-A, Orangi Town, Karachi, former Zonal Member of the MQM Zone " E ". On the night around 1:30 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police raided his hiding place in North Karachi, arrested and severely tortured him and escorted him to an unknown place.

At 4:30 p.m. The C.I.A. ( Central Intelligence Agency ) and the Plain Clothed Personnel raided the shop of Zakir at Jodia Bazar, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-30, Sector, Lyari. During this raid the raiding party arrested Zakir along with other MQM workers and office bearers, namely, Mohammad Yasin, Musharraf Ali and Mahmood and escorted to an unknown place. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1- Zakir s/o Mohammad Zaheer, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-30, Sector, Lyari. 2- Mohammad Yasin 28, s/o Mohammad Murad resident of Duryanichal Compound, No.28/30, Usmanabad, Karachi, an Incharge Sector, Lyari. 3- Musharraf Ali, 27, unmarried, s/o Ovais Ali resident of Flat No. 20, Baijoor Building, Aslam Road, Karachi, an Incharge of the MQM Unit-30, Sector, Lyari. 4- Mahmood, a Member of the MQM Sector Committee.

Amir Azeem 25, s/o Mohammad Mustaqeem resident of 16/2, Sector 5-D, New Karachi, Karachi, a worker of MQM Sector New Karachi. A raid was conducted by the Paramilitary Rangers and Police and he was arrested from his hiding place.

Around 2:00 a.m. on 22 January 1996 the Para-Military Rangers, Police and the Commandos raided a house No.2095, Maki Bagh, Fatima Jinnah Colony, Hyderabad, the house of an MQM worker Hyderabad. The raiding party in the absence of the MQM worker arrested his four brothers, namely, Mohammad Sadiq, Mohammad Rashid, Nasir, Amir and Mohammad Sharif member of the MQM Zonal Committee who was there in hiding. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1- Mohammad Sharif, 30, unmarried, s/o Ikramuddin resident of Alwaheed Square, Garri Khhata, Station Road, Hyderabad, a Member of the MQM Zonal Committee belonging to the MQM Unit-13, Sector," D ". 2- Mohammad Sadiq, 30, unmarried, s/o Mohammad Siddiq resident of 2095, Makkhhi Bagh, Fatima Jinnah Colony, Hyderabad, brother of an MQM worker of Hyderabad-7. 3- Mohammad Rashid, 19, unmarried, s/o Mohammad Siddiq resident of 2095, Makkhhi Bagh, Fatima Jinnah Colony, Hyderabad, brother of an MQM worker of Hyderabad-7. 4- Nasir, 21, unmarried, s/o Mohammad Siddiq and a resident of 2095, Makkhhi Bagh, Fatima Jinnah Colony, Hyderabad, brother of an MQM worker of Hyderabad-7. 5- Amir, 18, unmarried, s/o Mohammad Siddiq resident of 2095, Makkhhi Bagh, Fatima Jinnah Colony, Hyderabad, brother of an MQM worker of Hyderabad-7.

Anis Ahmed 27, s/o Balam Hussain (late), resident of R-716, Block-8, Azizabad, Federal B Area, Karachi, elder brother of an MQM worker Asif of the MQM Unit-153, Sector Federal B Area. On the evening around 4:45 p.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police raided the house of Asif and in his absence arrested his elder brother Anis Ahmed. A few months ago the Law Enforcement Agencies raided his house and his mother was so tortured that her teeth were broken.

22 January 1996
Rasheed resident of Block-L, Orangi Town, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-124, Sector Orangi Town. A week ago, the Law Enforcement Agencies sieged the adjoining areas of the Block-L, Orangi Town including the areas covering the hill tops. During the house to house search they arrested Rasheed and escorted him to their Head Quarters. During the unlawful detention he was so brutally tortured that he lost his one hand and face, whereas his forehead and head is critically wounded. His nose is badly damaged by some wooden or iron instrument.

Azim Khan 25, resident of 16 / 1, 5-D New Karachi, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-138, Sector New Karachi. On the morning New Karachi Police Personnel raided his house, arrested and severely tortured him and escorted him to the Police Station.

Ayub Ahmed 30, s/o Ahmed Raza, resident of 59 Sector No. 14-C, Orangi Town, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-121, Sector Orangi Town. Around 4:00 a.m. the Police personnel raided his house arrested and severely tortured him.

19 January 1996
Mohammad Ziauddin 30, s/o Mohammad Waliuddin (late), resident of A-74, Irfan Corner, Block-7, Federal " B " Area, Karachi, brother of Zaki, an Incharge of the MQM Unit-152, Sector Federal B Area. Around 1:15 a.m. the Personnel of Police and CIA raided the resident of Zaki, in his absence the raiding party arrested Mohammmad Ziauddin his younger brother and took him to an unknown place. During the raid they ransacked the house and took with them the photographs of Zaki, his phone number and different important documents. They brought with them a worker of the MQM Unit-152 for the identification who is in the custody of the State.

EXTORTION and HARASSMENT
19 January 1996
Armed Haqiqi terrorists are extorting money Rs.1000/= per shop from the shop owners around the adjoining areas of the Block No. 6, Gulshan-e- Iqbal, near Disco Bakery, Karachi. If any of the shop owner try to resist, he is threatened of dire consequences. The whole extortion money operation is being carried on under the protection of the Para-Military Rangers and Police.

18 January 1996
Syed Shahzad Ali 35, s/o Syed Akbar Ali, resident of 22 Sector 1-A, Kali Paharri, Orangi Town, Karachi, an Incharge of MQM Unit-131, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. On the night around 9:00 p.m. the Police personnel raided his hiding place and arrested him. They have taken him to Orangi Town Police Station where he is being brutally tortured. One of his brother was killed during the Aligarh incident.

At around 4 p.m. the Police Personnel raided a house 3-D, 23 / 1, Nazimabad, Karachi, of Farooq, Incharge of MQM Unit 180, Sector Nazimabad-Gulbahar. The raiding party in his absence arrested his two brothers namely, Mohammad Shahid 15 and Mohammad Javed 17 sons of Haji Ameeruddin, along with their guest Akhtar Khan and Raja. The Police personnel are threatening the family members to hand over Farooq or they will extra-judicially execute those arrested.

HARASSMENT
17 January 1996
Today around at 1:30 p.m. the Para-Military Rangers, Police and the Salam Group terrorists, namely, Bhoora, Aman, Mushka, Sana and others sieged the areas including Orangi No. 14, Essa Nagar, Jauhar Chowk, Allah Waris and Shamsi Colony, Orangi Town, Karachi. The above named terrorists were identifying the houses of the Mohajirs and in particular of the MQM workers and sympathisers and firing indiscriminately on the streets with frequent intervals. During the house to house search the raiding party abused, harassed the family members and ransacked the houses. They arrested innocent Mohajirs, including teenagers, the MQM workers and sympathisers. When the local women protested in front of the Orangi Extension Police Station for the release of those arrested, they were forcibly dispersed. An old man Ibrahim who approached to the Police Station for their release was assaulted by the Police Personnel. Those who were arrested are: Showkat, Javed (junior), Javed (senior), Ejaz and Mohammad Ali.

CORDON OFF OPERATION
16 January 1996
At midnight the Para-Military Rangers, Police the Frontier Constabulary sieged the areas of 8L, Sector 14-C and 11-E, Orangi Town, Karachi. During the house to house search the raiding party harassed, abused the family members and ransacked the houses. They arrested more than fifty Mohajir residents including the MQM workers and sympathisers, took off their shirts in chilled cold weather, blindfolded and severely tortured them. Afterwards they were escorted to unknown place. Some of those who were arrested are:

1- Majid Hussain 16, s/o Shariful Hasan, a worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Orangi Town. 2- Sajid Hussain 18, s/o Shariful Hasan, a worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Orangi Town. 3- Shahid. 4- Zakir. 5- Hameed.

At 4:30 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police raided the house of Mohammed Hussain, an office bearer of the MQM Unit-10, Sector, North Karachi. In his absence the raiding party arrested his two younger brothers and severely tortured them. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1-- Aquil 22, s/o Master Noor Hasan, resident of House No. 786, Yusuf Goth, Surjani Town, Karachi. 2-- Shakil 22, s/o Master Noor Hasan, resident of House No. 786, Yusuf Goth, Surjani town, Karachi.

At 12 p.m. the police raided the K.M.D.C. ( Karachi Medical and Dental College ) and arrested two MQM workers Shabbir and Wasim, whose further details are awaited.

14 January 1996
Mohammed Nazar 30, s/o Noor Mohammed resident of City Railway Colony near Mir Bukhsh Street, Karachi, belonging to MQM Unit-24, Sector, Burns Road, brother-in-law of an MQM worker Anis of the MQM Unit-109, Sector Shah Faisal Colony. On the midnight Police raided his house in search of his brother-in-law Anis, a worker of the MQM Unit-109, Sector, Shah Faisal Colony. The raiding party arrested him in the absence of Anis and escorted to Artillery Maidan Police Station.

Akhtar 29, s/o Abdur Rahman, resident of City Railway Colony near Mir Bukhsh Street, Karachi, brother of an MQM worker Afsar of the MQM Unit-24, Sector, Burns Road. The Police party led by the SP ( Superintendent of Police ) South, raided the house of Afsar, a worker of the MQM Unit-24, Sector, Burns Road. The raiding party in the absence of Afsar the MQM worker arrested his brother Akhtar, severely tortured him and escorted to Artillery Maidan Police Station. During the operation they ransacked the house and abused the females.

Ejaz Sheikh 30, resident of City Railway Colony near Mir Bukhsh Street, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-24, Sector, Burns Road. The Police party led by the SP (Superintendent of Police) South, raided his house, arrested him and escorted to Artillery Maidan Police Station.

Iqbal Ahmed 24, s/o Salahuddin, resident of Flat No. B-6, Paradise Apartment, Block-7, Federal B Area, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 152, Sector Federal B Area. The Police Personnel of the Gulberg Police Station arrested him near his house. He was handed over to the Jauharabad Police Station on the very next day.

13 January 1996
Mohammad Rafiq 20, s/o Mohammad Hanif, resident of House No. 805, Sector 14-C, Orangi Town, Karachi, a sympathiser of MQM Unit 121, Sector Orangi Town. The Police personnel and the Salam Group Terrorists of Orangi Town jointly raided his shop at Liaquatabad, arrested him and escorted to Orangi Extension Police Station and kept him along with his brother Mohammad Shafiq who is already in the lockup.

DISAPPEARANCE
Mohammad Feroze 40, and Mohammad Noor Alam 24, sons of Mohammad Hanif, resident of 805, Sector 14-C, Orangi Town, Karachi, both workers of MQM Unit 121, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. They went out of the house and never returned. The family has strong apprehensions that the law enforcement agencies are behind their disappearance and that their lives are in extreme danger.

The Police arrested Roomi, Finance Secretary of the MQM Unit-126, Sector, Orangi Town, Karachi, alongwith Dastagir, an APMSO worker. [Further details are awaited]

The Para-Military Rangers and Police raided a shop at Paposhnagar and arrested Rizwanullah sheikh the elder brother of an MQM worker Ziaullah Sheikh. The raiding party severely tortured him and after acquiring the whereabouts of Ziaullah Skeikh they raided his place of hiding and arrested him. Both the arrested brothers are taken to an unknown Detention Cell. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1-- Ziaullah Sheikh 26, s/o Sheikh Shafaatullah, resident of A-172 / T, North Nazimabad, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-175, Sector, North Nazimabad. 2-- Rizwanullah Sheikh 35, s/o Sheikh Shafaatullah, resident of A-172 / T, North Nazimabad, Karachi.

Manzoor Alam 26, s/o Abdur Rashid, resident of House No. 361, Tauhid Colony, KMC., Orangi Town, Karachi, is an MQM sympathiser and a shop owner of local market. At 5:00 p.m. the Personnel of Mominabad Police Station in an Armoured Personnel Carrier ( APC.) raided the local market. During this raid he was arrested from his shop alongwith several other shop owners. The Personnel are demanding heavy bribe from the affected families for their release.

12 January 1996 At dawn the Para-Military Rangers, Police and CIA. ( Central Intelligence Agency ) siege the areas of sector 5-B-3, North Karachi and sector 11-E, New Karachi, Karachi. During the house to house search they ransacked the houses, harassed and abused the Mohajir residents.

SIEGE , SEARCH and HARASSMENT
At dawn the Frontier Constabulary siege the area of Bhai Khan Chowk, Hyderabad. During the house to house search they abused, misbehaved with the Mohajir females and ransacked the houses.

SIEGE, SEARCH and ARREST
The Para-Military Rangers and Police siege the areas of Gurunagar, Pinjrabol, Bakramandi, Liaqat Colony, Islamnagar, Phulaili, and Rassighat, Hyderabad. During the siege and search operation the Para-Military Rangers and police ransacked the houses, abuses the family members and assaulted the local residents. The following MQM workers have been arrested from Grunagar, Hyderabad: 1-- Khalid s/o Abdul Aziz,
2-- Rashid s/o Ismail,
3-- Zakir s/o Faqir Mohammed
4-- Nadeem s/o Parvez.

Shamim Anwar w/o Late Anwar Khan , resident of 2-D / 3, Nazimabad, Enquiry Office, near Baqai Hospital, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-169, Sector, Gulbahar, Nazimabad. At 3:00 p.m. the Police raided her completely locked house as she was in hiding due to the fear of State Terrorism. The raiding party ransacked the house and looted the valuables. Her son Khurshid Ahmed s/o Late Anwar Khan arrested on 10 October 1995 is imprisoned in the Central Jail Karachi.

Iqbal Ghauri, 35, s/o Haji Abdul Salam Ghauri resident of Peetal Wali Gali, Nishtar Colony, Gulbahar, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 189, Sector Gulbahar, Karachi. At about 2 p.m. the Police raided his house and arrested him.

At about 7 p.m. the Police raided the areas of the MQM Unit-29, Sector, Lyari, Karachi. During this raid they arrested Mohammed Imran, an Incharge of the MQM Unit-29, Sector, Lyari alongwith 6 other workers of the different MQM Units. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1-- Mohammed Imran 22, s/o Qutbuddin, resident of Kaka Street, Lyari, Karachi, an Incharge of the MQM Unit-29, Sector, Lyari. 2-- Mohammed Shakil 25, s/o Mohammed Ahmed, resident of Salma Manzil, Kaka Street, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-29, Sector Lyari. 3-- Mohammed Abid 18, s/o Mohammed Yaqub, resident of Salma Manzil Kaka Street, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-29, Sector Lyari. 4-- Abdul Karim 18, s/o Late Ali Asghar, resident of Sakina Manzil, Kaka Street, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-29, Sector Lyari. 5-- Abdur Rahim 20, s/o Late Ali Asghar, resident of Sakina Manzil, Kaka Street, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-29, Sector, Lyari. 6--Urid Shah, resident of Block-10, Federal B Area, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-151, Sector Federal B Area. 7--Mohsin 22, s/o Nizamuddin, resident of G. I. K. 118, 7022, Kachhi Parrah, Usmanabad, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-32, Sector Lyari.

SIEGE , SEARCH and ARREST
After sunset the area of Sector 1-D, Orangi Town, Karachi was siege by the Para-Military Rangers. During the house to house search they fired indiscriminately on the streets and arrested a large number of Mohajir youngsters. When the females tried to save those Mohajirs youngsters they were threatened not to intervene further otherwise all the arrested Mohajirs youngsters will be shot dead. They have taken them to an unknown Detention Cell.

From 5 a.m. till night 2:30 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Frontier Constabulary Siege the areas of the MQM Units 120 and 124, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. During house to house search they arrested several MQM workers and sympathisers. Some of those arrested are as follows; 1- Mahmood Alam, 2- Mohammed Jamil, 3- Mohammed Rasheed Ahmed, 4- Mohammed Mubarak, 5- Mohammed Mukhtar, all workers of MQM Unit 124, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. 6- Mohammed Sohail, 7- Mohammed Hanif, 8- Mohammed Zakir and 9- Mohammed Shahnawaz all workers of MQM Unit 120, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi.

Heavy Contingents of Para-Military Rangers, Police and Commandos raided the house of Hanif, an MQM sympathiser on Hali Road, Hyderabad. They arrested Hanif along with his two brothers. They were severely tortured and taken to an unknown Detention Cell. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1--Hanif 27, s/o Abdul Hamid of Bombay Press, Chand Masjid, Hyderabad, an MQM sympathiser belonging to the MQM Hyderabad. 2--Fahim 12, s/o Abdul Hamid of Bombay Press, Chand Masjid, Hyderabad, an MQM sympathiser belonging to the MQM Hyderabad. 3--Naeem 11, s/o Abdul Hamid of Bombay Press, Chand Masjid, Hyderabad, an MQM sympathiser belonging to the MQM Hyderabad.

At 12:30 p.m. the Para-Military Rangers, Police and CIA. ( Central Intelligence Agency ) led by SHO. Zeeshan Kazmi raided a house B - 313, sector 11-A, North Karachi, Karachi. Syed Sohail Ansar Zaidi an office Bearer of the MQM's Labour Division was in hiding at that address. This house belonged to his relatives. The Personnel of the Paramilitary Rangers arrested Syed Sohail Ansar Zaidi alongwith his relatives. They severely tortured the victims, took off their shirts, blind folded them and took them to New Karachi Police Station. At 1:30 p.m. they raided Syed Sohail Ansar Zaidi's permanent residence at Alnoor Society, Federal B Area, Karachi. During the raid they abused and harassed his Brother. The details of those arrested are as follows; 1- Syed Sohail Ansar Zaidi 32, s/o Syed Ansarul Hasan Zaidi, resident of R-1142 / 20, Federal B Area, Karachi, an office Bearer of the MQM's Labour Division. 2- Syed Kamran Haider 24, s/o Syed Zafar Hasnain Zaidi, resident of B-313, sector 11-A, North Karachi, Karachi, a sympathiser of the MQM and relative of Syed Sohail Ansar Zaidi. 3- Syed Salman Haider Zaidi 18, s/o Syed Zafar Hasnain Kazmi, resident of B-313, sector 11-A, North Karachi, Karachi, a sympathiser of the MQM and relative of Syed Sohail Ansar Zaidi. 4- Syed Raza Ali Zaidi 35, s/o Syed Iqtidar Hasnain Zaidi, resident of B-313, sector 11-A, North Karachi, Karachi, a sympathiser of the MQM and relative of Syed Sohail Ansar Zaidi.

Razzaque Sheikh Arab 36, s/o Saeed Ahmad Sheikh Arab, resident of 1729/275, Arab Mohallah, Baldia Town, Karachi, an active worker of the MQM Unit-117, Sector, Baldia. At 12:00 p.m. the Police raided his house and arrested him. They severely tortured and took him away to Police Station. During the raid they ransacked the house and abused the family members.

Between 6 and 7 p.m. the Para-Military Rangers arrested several MQM workers from MQM Unit-29 and other Units of Lyari, Karachi. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1--Imran, 2--Shakeel, 3--Akhlaque, 4--Abid, 5--Mohsin, 6--Shoaib and 7--Noor Mohammed.

SIEGE, SEARCH and ARREST
At 5:00 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Frontier Constabulary siege the areas of the MQM Unit-120, 124 including Madina Colony, Millat Colony, Rahim Shah Colony and Block J and L of Imam Bukhsh Colony, Orangi Town, Karachi. During the house to house search they arrested more than 4,000 persons including the teenagers and old aged elders. Those arrested were blindfolded and passed alongside of an Armoured Personnel Carrier ( APC. ) for their Identification by an informer sitting in the APC. They have arrested a large number of innocent youngsters and taken them to an unknown detention cell.

Urid Shahadat 24, s/o Shahadat Ali, resident of R-353, Block-10, Federal B area, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit 151, Sector Federal B Area. The Police personnel arrested him along with five or six other MQM workers from their hiding place during a raid at Makka Building, Kaka Street, Nishtar Road, Karachi.

SIEGE AND SEARCH OPERATION
Mohammad Sohail 28, s/o Mohammad Islam, resident of E / 511, Street No. 3, Imam Colony, Sector-11 1/2, Orangi Town, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 120, Sector Orangi Town. Today around 2:30 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Frontier Constabulary sieged the areas of Imam Colony 11-1/2, Orangi Town. During the house to house search they raided his house and arrested him.

CORDON OFF OPERATION
Sheikh Mohammad Yusuf 35, s/o Sheikh Mohammad Yaqub, resident of 579, Millat Colony, Sector 11, Orangi Town, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 120, Sector Orangi Town. On the night around 2:30 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and the Frontier Constabulary sieged the areas of Orangi Town 11-1/2. During the house to house search they raided his house and arrested him.

10 January 1996
Parvez Ali 20, s/o Ismail, resident of House No. 1578, Surjani Town, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-10, Sector, North Karachi. On the midnight of 1 January 1996, he was arrested by the Police from Yusuf Goth. Later on he was released on 8 January 1996. The Police again raided his house on 9 January 1996. In this raid they arrested his mother in his absence. On 10 January 1996 he went to the Police Station and surrendered himself to get his mother released.

RAID and HARASSMENT
The Para-Military Rangers and Police are continuously raiding the houses of MQM's workers and sympathisers in Hyderabad. During the raids they abuse the family members, ransack the houses and loot the valuables. They have step up the raids and arrests in the City. Due to the above situation the citizens are very much scared.

SIEGE, SEARCH and ARREST
At 5:00 p.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police siege the areas of Dak-khana, Nairang Cinema and the areas of the MQM Unit-164, Liaquatabad, Karachi. During the house to house search operation they arrested a large number of innocent Mohajir residents and took them to an unknown place.

The Para-Military Rangers and Police also sieged the areas of Gulbahar, New Karachi, Karachi. During the search operation they arrested innocent Mohajir residents.

9 January 1996
Abdul Jabbar, 20, s/o Abdur Rasheed resident of Quarter No. 5, Block-233, Railway Colony, City Station, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 24, Sector Lyari, Karachi. On 9 January 1996 he was arrested from Saddar, Karachi along with another MQM worker, Amin. He is now being detained at the Central Prison, Karachi in false and fabricated charges.

Around 2 p.m. the Police arrested Saghir Ahmed father of an MQM Martyr Saleem and kept him in unlawful confinement for 10 hours and he was compelled to sign on a blank Stamp Paper.

Mohammed Shahid 22, resident of Sector-1, Surjani Town, Karachi, is a worker of the MQM Unit-10, Sector, North Karachi. At first he was arrested on the midnight of 1 January 1996 by the Police from Yusuf Goth. Later on he was released on 8 January 1996. The Police again raided his house on 9 January 1996 and arrested him.

At 4 p.m. a raid and search operation led by the SP. (Superintendent of Police) South, carried out in the Sadar, Karachi. During this operation two MQM workers, namely, Mohammed Jabbar and Amin were arrested and escorted to Preedy Police Station. Both the arrested MQM workers are being tortured severely in the Police Station. The details of those arrested are as follows: 1- Mohammed Jabbar 28, s/o Abdur Rashid, resident of City Railway Colony, near Railway School, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-24, Sector, Burns Road. 2- Amin, is a worker of the MQM Sector, Burns Road, Karachi. HARASSMENT AND DEVASTATION
Ayub 27, resident of City Railway Colony, Mir Bukhsh Cycle Wali Street, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-24, Sector, Burns Road. Today the Police Personnel raided his house, abused his wife and other family members and ransacked the house.

Abdul Jabbar 20, s/o Late Abdul Rasheed resident of Quarter No. 5, Block No. 233, Railway Colony, City Station, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 24, Sector Lyari, Karachi. On 9 January 1996 he was arrested along with Amin during a raid conducted by SSP South. At present he is being imprisoned at the Central Jail, Karachi.

8 January 1996
Ejaz Ahmed 29, s/o Haji Mushtaque Ahmed, resident of S-4 / 1755 AIC, Usmanabad, Major Abdur Rahman Road, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-19, Sector, Lyari. At 3:30 a.m. the Heavy Contingents of Garden, Kalakot, Nabibukhsh Police Stations and the CIA. ( Central Intelligence Agency ) raided his house, arrested and severely tortured his father in his absence. Acquiring the information from his father at the Police Station the Police raided his hiding place, Azim Plaza and arrested him.

Mohammed Shiraz 17, s/o Mohammed Akram, resident of House No. 195, Lane No. 6, Ghazinagar, Siddiq Wahab Road, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-32, Sector, Lyari. At 4:00 a.m. the Heavy Contingents of Garden, Kalakot, Nabibukhsh Police Stations and the CIA. ( Central Intelligence Agency ) raided his house, arrested him alongwith his father and paternal uncles. The raiding party abused the family members, severely tortured those arrested and escorted to Police Station. His father and paternal uncles were released by the Police later on.

Mohammed Amir 17, s/o Mohammed Zaheer, resident of House No. 147, Lane No. 3, Ghazinagar, Major Abdur Rahman Road, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-32, Sector, Lyari. At 3:30 a.m. the Garden Police Station and CIA. ( Central Intelligence Agency ) jointly raided his house, arrested him alongwith his three brothers. The raiding party ransack the house, abused the family members, severely tortured those arrested and escorted to Police Station. His brothers were released by the police later on.

At 2:30 p.m., Mohammed Rashid s/o Mohammed Abbas, an active worker of the MQM Unit-124, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi, was arrested by the Personnel of (Armoured Personnel Carrier -- APC. ) Orangi Extension Police Station. They severely tortured him and took him to the Torture Cell of PPP's terrorist Salam Group in Bangla Bazar, Orangi Town, Karachi. It is feared that he may be killed in unlawful custody. The local residents are very much concerned. When the females protested in front of Police Station they were abused and asked to disperse peacefully otherwise they will be Lathi-charged.

FIRING and HARASSMENT
The routine life of the residents of the MQM Unit-164, Liaquatabad No. 2-3, around the areas of Nairang Cinema and Gujar-nala, Karachi have become miserable for the last one week. As the Police enters the lanes with indiscriminate firing, abuses and arrests the local residents. The Police releases them after grabbing heavy bribe or threatens to kill them in a "fake Police Encounter" if they fail to pay the bribe.

EXTORTION and HARASSMENT
7 January 1996
Haqiqi terrorists armed with modern weapons had extorted money from the shop owners of the Shopping Centres in Liaquatabad-2 and from the owner of Nairang Cinema, Liaquatabad, Karachi. The Haqiqi terrorists carried out the whole extortion operation under the protection of the Armoured Personnel Carrier ( APC. ) and the Mobiles.

On a religious congregation night ( Shab-e-Barat ) the plain clothed Personnel of Paramilitary Rangers and Police raided different graveyards and mosques of Karachi City and arrested a large number of MQM workers and sympathisers who went there to say their prayers over the dead.

EXTORTION and HARASSMENT
The Haqiqi terrorists Shakil, Imran, Raja and Ata armed with weapons had extorted an amount of Rs. 5000 from the Shop owners of Sector 13-D, Orangi Town, Karachi. The Haqiqi terrorists threatened the Shop Owners that their Shops would be closed for ever if they failed to pay the amount of Rs. 5000 on monthly basis. During the extortion operation they were protected by the State Personnel.

Mohammed Javed Alam 20, s/o Mohammed Ilyas, resident of G /113, Imam Colony, sector-11, Orangi Town, Karachi, a worker of the MQM Unit-120, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. At 5:30 p.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police raided his house, arrested him and severely tortured on the spot. They assaulted the family members as they tried to save him. They took him away in the Armoured Personnel Carrier (A. P. C. ).

HARASSMENT
The Paramilitary Rangers and Police raided the houses of Saleem Tajik s/o Abdul Hamid Tajik and Mustafa Kamal, the members of the MQM's Sector Committee, North Karachi. During the search the raiding party forcibly entered the houses unlocking the doors and ransacked as both the families are in hiding.

6 January 1996
At 10:00 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police sieged the areas of Latifabad-10, Hyderabad. During the house to house search they arrested MQM workers, took off their shirts and blind folded them. They severely tortured and took them to an unknown Detention Cell. The details of some of those arrested are as follows: 1- Qazi Nadeem s/o Qazi Moinuddin, a worker of MQM Unit-45, Latifabad-5, Hyderabad. 2- Rahman s/o Mohammed Akhtar, a worker of MQM Unit-46, Latifabad, Hyderabad. 3- Amiruddin s/o Shamsuddin, a worker of MQM Unit-50, Ayub Colony, Latifabad-11, Hyderabad. 4- Mohammed Asad a worker of MQM Unit-50, Ayub Colony, Latifabad, Hyderabad. 5- Mohammed Iqbal a worker of MQM Unit-46, Latifabad -10, Hyderabad.

Due to severe torture Qazi Nadeem and Rahman are critically wounded.

FIRING, LOOTING and ARREST
6 January 1996
The Police had fired indiscriminately from their Pickets in the area of MQM Unit-164, around Gujarnala, Liaquatabad, Karachi. They came out of their Pickets and entered into the streets firing indiscriminately. During this Operation they surrounded and forcibly entered several flats and arrested all the males present there and escorted to Police Station where they are being tortured. The Police looted all the valuables including the Dowry from another flat during this operation.

HARASSMENT DURING/AFTER FUNERAL
The Para-Military Rangers and Police surrounded the Graveyard, abused and assaulted the participants coming out of the graveyard after burying Shamim Ahmed a Martyr of MQM Unit-118, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi, he was shot dead on the 5 January 1996.

5 January 1996
The Para-Military Rangers and Police Sieged the areas of Unit 122, Orangi Town, Karachi. During the operation they arrested several MQM workers and sympathiser.

Amir Iqbal s/o Abdul Karim, resident of Tando Allah Yar, an APMSO Sector Member, Hyderabad. The Para-Military Rangers and Police arrested him from Hyderabad where he was working on behalf of the APMSO.

SIEGE and ARREST
4 January 1996
The Para-Military Rangers and Police Sieged the area of Kali Paharri, Sector 1-A, 1-C, Unit-131, Orangi Town Karachi. The main victim during the house to house search was the house of an MQM sympathiser where the marriage ceremony was going on. They forcibly entered the house misbehaved, abused and threaten the public who had gathered to attend the ceremony. They started firing indiscriminately due to which a stray bullet hit in the leg an MQM' sympathiser. They arrested 20 youngsters and took them to Shershah's Rangers Head Quarter. The Rangers shot dead one and wounded critically another youngster during the illegal detention.

At 8:00 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police Sieged the areas of Unit-130, Orangi Town, Karachi. During the house to house search they arrested the MQM workers and sympathiser.

Qamruddin 65, s/o Abdul Khaliq resident of 726, sector 9/F, Orangi Town, Karachi, an Elders Committee Member belonging to MQM Unit-122, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. At about 2:00 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police raided his house and arrested him. During the operation they ransacked the premises and looted the cash and valuables.

The Para-Military Rangers and Police had arrested several persons from different parts of Sukkur.

SIEGE and ARRESTS
3 January 1996
Rashid Ali 20, s/o Tasawwar Ali, resident of House no. 80, sector 7-A, Orangi Town, Karachi, is a worker of the MQM Unit-130, Sector, Orangi Town, Karachi. At 10:00 a.m. he was arrested by the Para-Military Rangers during the Siege and Search operation of Sector 7-A, Orangi Town, Karachi.

Mohsin Khan 21, s/o Akbar Khan resident of F/13, Alfalah Housing Project, Karachi, a worker of APMSO Unit of Urdu Science College, Karachi. He was sitting alongwith other APMSO workers in the National Bank branch, situated in the Urdu Science College, Karachi, when they were spotted by the PSF (Peoples Student Federation, student wing of the PPP) workers equipped with lethal weapons, Iron Rods, Sticks. These PSF workers were assisted by the Police led by the ASI Sohail of the Special Branch. They attacked the workers of APMSO. Mohsin Khan and others managed to escape in a very critical condition while the two APMSO workers Raffat and Hammad were arrested.

Tousif Masroor, 25, s/o Masroor Ahmed resident of Block- 10, Federal B Area , Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit-151, Sector Federal B Area, Karachi. A few days earlier the personnel of the Field Investigation Team raided his house and arrested him.

Masroor Baqar 26, s/o Saeed Ahmed Baqar resident of Federal B Area, Karachi, the finance secretary of MQM Unit-151, Sector Federal B Area, Karachi. The personnel of the Federal Investigation Team raided his house and arrested him and took him to an unknown place.

Kamran Khanzadah, 30, s/o Aman Khanzadah resident of Latifabad, Usmania Colony, Hyderabad, Sector member of Hyderabad. On the night the Para-Military Rangers, Police and the Elite Force raided his sister's house where he was in hiding and arrested him. It is feared that his life is in danger.

The Para-Military Rangers and Police have sieged the adjoining areas of Usmanabad, Karachi. During the house to house search operation they harassed the residents and arrested 300 persons.

At night the Para-Military Rangers and Police raided the house of MQM's Unit Secretary Mohammad Shahid Ajmeri and in the vicinity houses in Hyderabad. They slapped and abused the female members of the family, ransacked the house. During the operation they arrested about 20 persons.

The Para-Military Rangers and Police raided and ransacked the house of the former MQM Councillor Abrar Khanzadah in Hyderabad for the 21st time.

The Para-Military Rangers and Police Raided and surrounded the area of Pakka Qilaa no.-2, Hyderabad on the night and abused the females of the house. Later on the local females protested in front of the Police Station.

In Latifabad No. 10, on the night the Para-Military Rangers and Police raided the house of Rahman an MQM worker and arrested his younger brother Sohail in his absence.

The para-Military Rangers and Police surrounded the area of Kali Paharri in sector 1-A-1-C, MQM Unit-131, Orangi Town Karachi and arrested about 80 youngsters.

On the night the Para-Military Rangers and Police had raided the house of Salim Bandhani a member of MQM's Sector Committee, Sukkur. In his absence they ransacked the premises and looted Rs.6,000 in cash, Ornaments and other valuable goods.

Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Orangi Town and some of the areas of District East and West, Karachi had been raided by the para-Military Rangers and Police. During the operation they have arrested several persons.

2 January 1996
Ms. Shumaila Mohajir 23, d/o Syed Nazar Ali resident of B-4 / 92 opposite Cantonment Hospital, Jat Line, Lines area, Karachi, an active worker of MQM Unit-197, Sector Lines Area, Karachi. At about 10:00 p.m. heavy contingents of Police and CIA raided and forcibly entered her house. As the Personnel were busy in ransacking, abusing and enquiring the whereabouts of Shumaila Mohajir, she, her sisters and mother managed to escape. The Personnel abused other members present in the premises. They raided the house once again in the night.

SIEGE and ARRESTS
At about 7 a.m. the Para-Military Rangers and Police sieged the areas of Gharibabad, Bandhani Colony, Karachi, and arrested about 400 persons.

The Para-Military Rangers and Police have Sieged the areas of Gharibabad, Bandhani Colony and Ishaqabad , Karachi. During the house to house search they ransacked the houses, tortured the family members and arrested around 1500 local resident.

Some of the names of those who were arrested are: Mohammad Arif, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Parvez, Salman Shah, Shakil Ahmed, Mohammad Shahid, Adnan Hussain, Laeeq, Khawar Butt, Karimuddin, Ayaz and Kamal.

1 January 1996
Mohammad Ali 26, s/o Intezar Hussain resident of 5-D-585, Surjani Town, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit-125, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. The Para-Military Rangers and Police raided his In-law's house at Godhra Camp Karachi, where he was hiding and arrested him. He is being tortured severely and it is feared that he may be killed extrajudicially.

Mohammad Aashoo 17, s/o Hafeez, resident of Gulshan-e-Bahar, Orangi Town, Karachi, a worker of MQM Unit 121, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. He was arrested from near his house by the Police on indentification from the PPP terrorists. At present he is imprisoned at the Central Jail, Karachi.

In the evening, the Para-Military Rangers and Police sieged the area of 5-A/2, Yusuf Goth, Karachi. During the operation several houses of MQM workers in particular and Mohajirs in general were raided. Several persons were arrested and shifted to unknown destinations, those who were arrested are:

1- Riaz Hasan 28, resident of 147/14, Sector 5D, New Karachi, Karachi, an active worker of MQM Unit 10, Sector New Karachi, Karachi.

2- Mohammed Ahmed Ali 26 s/o Late Ghulam Rabbani, resident of 26-A Yousuf Goth, Surjani Town, Karachi, an office bearer of MQM Unit-10, Sector New Karachi. His brother Asghar Ali was earlier on 30 December 1995 during a siege operation from his house by Para-Military Rangers and Police.

3- Farhan 25 s/o Abdul Samad, resident of 210/56A, Faridi Town, New Karachi, Karachi, office bearer of MQM Unit No. 10 , Sector New Karachi, Karachi. His brother Shan Ahmed alongwith another MQM worker had been arrested on 30 December 1995 by Para-Military Rangers and Police.
