ALTAF HUSSAIN DEMANDS RESTORATION OF FORMER LG NAZIMS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

MQM Founder & Leader Mr. Altaf Hussain has demanded the restoration of the former nazims of the local government system for helping the flood affected people. In a telephonic address at Khursheed Memorial Hall which was attended by office bearers of different wings, MNAs, MPAs, Senators, and former Nazims, Mr Hussain said that the eighty eight thousand elected public representatives throughout Pakistan would have solved the problems of the flood affected people in a better and efficient way. He said that if the former Local Government Nazims are restored than more than fifty per cent of the problems being faced by the people would be practically solved.
Mr. Altaf Hussain said that while the affected people are forced to live in misery in camps and under open sky, the departments that are meant to cope with such large scale disasters were nowhere to be seen. He demanded of the top ranking government authorities to take serious view of the worsening situation and help relieve the misery of the people. He deplored the fact that some of the elected representatives from the flood affected areas had not visited their constituency at all for providing help to their people.
He said that the course of the flood water was deliberately changed by making cuts in the path of the river and by breaching the embankments. This deliberate act on the part of influential people, who are present both in the opposition and the government, was the main cause of inundation of millions of acre of land and destruction. He said that this tantamount to crime against humanity which is against the charter of the United Nations. He asked the Supreme Court, the High Courts and other top ranking authorities as to why these influential people could not be brought to justice.
He said that if no action is taken by the concerned authorities than MQM may appeal to the people to forcefully occupy their property. He said that action must be taken and the sooner, the better. He appealed to the President and the Prime Minister to help the flood victims in their rehabilitation and reconstruction work. He said that swift action was required.
