Karachi – 30th September 2007
The
MQM Coordination Committee after a joint session held in Karachi and
International Secretariat in London, chaired by MQM Convenor Dr Imran Farooq,
strongly deplored the murder attempt and brutal torture upon MQM Deputy Convenor
and Haq Parast Parliamentary Leader in National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar by
so-called lawyers in Islamabad. After prolonged discussions the session decided
that the party cannot remain silent on this open act of aggression and violence.
It was decided that by remaining within the constitution and the law of the
land, the MQM will organise phase-wise peaceful protest demonstrations against
this naked terrorism and act of violence. In the first phase peaceful protest
demonstrations will be organised in Karachi and Sindh which will be attended by
MQM parliamentarians, office bearers, workers, mothers, sisters, elders and
members of the public. Moreover, protest meetings will be held in the cities and
districts of Punjab, NWFP, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir, where resolutions will
be passed condemning the murder attempt and brutal torture upon Dr Farooq Sattar.
The joint session also decided that decision with regards to second phase of the
peaceful demonstrations will be taken in the next session. In the first phase,
on Monday at 3pm, Haq Parast Members of National Assembly will hold a peaceful
protest demonstration in front of the Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam, this will also
be attended by workers and members of the public. Furthermore, peaceful
demonstrations will also be organised in Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Khairpur and
Larkana. The joint session noted that the members of public are infuriated as a
result of murder attempt and brutal torture upon Dr Farooq Sattar, however, the
session appealed to the workers and members of public to remain peaceful. The
session stated that Dr Farooq Sattar is an elected representative of hundreds of
thousands of voters, deputy convenor of third largest political party of the
country, Haq Parast parliamentary leader and former Mayor of Karachi, therefore,
the anxiety amongst the workers and public is natural, however, the protest of
MQM will remain peaceful and lawful. The session also stressed that these
peaceful demonstrations will continue until all those lawyers responsible for
attempted murder and brutal torture upon Dr Farooq Sattar and their masters are
apprehended and punished according to the law. The session also expressed their
severest condemnation on the brutal torture upon Minister of State for
Information Senator Tariq Azeem. In the end, the MQM Coordination Committee
appealed to the people of Pakistan, particularly mothers, sisters, elders,
youth, human rights and lawyers organisations, peace-loving lawyers,
journalists, doctors, engineers, students, teachers, artists, traders, shop
owners, labours, writers, poets, intellectuals and people from all walks of life
to attend the peaceful demonstrations in large numbers and prove that they not
only reject those who are committing acts of terrorism and violence under the
name of independence of judiciary and supremacy of constitution; but also
unanimously and strongly condemn this terrorist and violent act. (END)

Is this is supremacy of Law or independence of judiciary?
