MQM USA launches its Katrina Relief Drive

USA responding to Quaid-e-Tehreek Altaf Hussain’s call for helping Katrina 
victims have intensified its relief efforts by expanding it to all its units 
throughout the United States. Central organizer Ajaz Siddiqi has instructed MQM 
USA units to immediately setup relief booths and arrange transportation to 
supply collected goods to the victims taking refuge at Astrodome in Houston. A 
nationwide telephonic meeting held by the MQM USA structured the relief 
activities and instructed all units to use their best efforts in reaching out to 
the masses. A base camp is being setup in Houston right in front of the 
Astrodome and a senior MQM member Ibad U. Rehman has been appointed as Relief 
Coordinator to strategize the nationwide campaign. Transportation from 17 
different cities is being arranged by the local units to transport relief items 
to Houston on or before next Saturday where local senators and congressmen shall 
be working closely with the MQM USA to distribute these items amongst the needy 
people.
While taking many other measures to collect funds and relief goods for 
transporting to Houston, MQM Washington unit has met with a delegation comprises 
of VA senator Ms. Toddy Puller, VA State delegate Ms. Christine Edmondson and 
Chairman of Pakistan American Business Association Mr. Siddique Sheikh. They all 
have applauded MQM’s efforts and termed it as “Timely”. They wholeheartedly 
assured MQM Washington that they would be working shoulder to shoulder with MQM 
workers in this relief effort and would use their best efforts in supporting 
this noble cause. Senior member of the MQM Mr. Ibad Ur Rehman, representing 
Washington DC unit has complimented the guests for their show of support to MQM 
and assured them that their valuable services will be needed at every stage of 
this relief drive.
