THE MQM NOMINATED CANDIDATES MAULANA FEROZ UDDIN, ANWAR ALAM AND ABDUL QUDOOS ATTACKED BY HAQIQI TERRORISTS IN KARACHI
A PASSERS-BY WAS KILLED SEVEN MQM WORKERS AND A WOMAN SEVERELY INJURED

Karachi, 29 September 2002
The Haqiqi terrorists opened fire upon the MQM (Muttahida Quami Movement) workers in the neighborhood of Unit 125 in Orangi Town Sector, Karachi.  The MQM nominated candidates Maulana Feroz Uddin Rehmani, Anwar Alam and Abdul Qudoos have strongly condemned the terrorist attack that caused death to one passer-by Ghulam Hussain Rao and serious injuries to a woman who was standing by.  The attack also seriously injured seven MQM workers.

The MQM office bearers have been informing the law enforcement agencies on a regular basis about the blatant arm display and vandalising by the Haqiqi terrorists but no action was taken against the terrorists.

The MQM nominated candidates were in the area to inaugurate new office in the locality when the terrorists fired them upon.  The police and paramilitary rangers did not intervene to arrest the terrorist despite appeals by MQM leaders and workers.  The Coordination Committee of the MQM has also condemned the indifferent behavior of the law enforcement personnel.  The lack of police action caused loss of one life and injuries to seven others.

Furthermore, it seems that the Haqiqi terrorists have been given a free hand to loot, plunder and coerce in areas they occupy on gunpoint.  All these localities have been turned into “No go areas” for MQM candidates, leaders and workers.  If the candidates are not allowed even to enter their constituencies for canvassing, how can the elections be termed as “transparent”?  The MQM Coordination Committee has appealed to Gen. Pervez Musharraf and Interior Minister Moin Haider to investigate the terrorist attack upon MQM workers in Orangi Town and to arrest the perpetrators.  They also appealed to the Elections Commission of Pakistan, European Union and Human Rights Organisations world wide to take serious notice of possible irregularities in the forthcoming general elections in Pakistan.
