Karachi - 15 September 2002
Mr Altaf Hussain , founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) declared that the MQM neither was against Pakistan nor had any quarrel or acrimony against the army or state agencies and expressed his desires that the state agencies should expend their energies in the interests of the country instead of machinations against the MQM for breaking it. He eloquently warned that the people of Sindh are uniting and if the Establishment did not change its attitude and provide Sindh her rights considering her people equal then the people of Sindh would create the kind of Pakistan with the help of the other oppressed nations where feudal lords would not rule but the people.

Mr Altaf Hussain expressed these views over the telephone from London addressing electoral rallies arranged simultaneously in Korangi, Rizvia Society Gulbahar and Qasba Colony districts of Karachi where over 100 thousand men, women and children of all origin and religion had gathered to listen to Mr Altaf Hussain .

Mr Altaf Hussain challenged the religio-political parties including the so-called religious parties who had been claiming that the popularity graph of the MQM had fallen to come and witness the “sea” of the people. He further challenged all other political parties to hold simultaneous rallies in three different places in Karachi with mammoth attendance or else accept the fact that the graph of the MQM has diametrically risen and not fallen.

Mr Altaf Hussain reminded people that the Establishment had set out to obliterate the MQM from Urdu-speaking areas but with the blessings of God, it miserably failed. He added that now, along with Mohajirs, MQM is throbbing in the hearts of Sindhis, Baloch, Punjabis, Pakhtuns and religious minorities and its message had disseminated in all nooks and corners of Sindh. He further affirmed that today, his heart was also pounding along with the hearts of the oppressed people of Sindh.

Mr Altaf Hussain said that unparalleled state atrocities were unleashed upon Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Lines Area, Qasba Colony and Gulbahar, numerous MQM workers have been brutally murdered, children snatched from their mothers, families displaced, thousands unlawfully arrested, and it continues even today.  The Establishment wanted to measure the courage and determination of the people of these areas as to how long they would continue to support Altaf Hussain .  By the Grace of Allah Almighty, the might of the Establishment failed to disfranchise the people from their Leader and the Movement.  He saluted the people and the workers of these areas that they remained determined and steadfast despite facing all the state atrocities and did not severed their way with Altaf Hussain .  Calling upon those who label the MQM as “anti-State” Mr Hussain said that today in these three MQM public gatherings, people from all walks of life, nationalities, communities and religious minorities are present and one could witness the exhibition of “true Pakistan” of Quaid-e-Azam.  He prayed to Allah Almighty for the long life of this true spirit.

Mr Hussain said that we love everyone and hate no one, because we drink the water of Shah Latif’s Land, which is the land of peace and love and those who drink the water of this land, could only speak of peace and love.  Addressing the Establishment, Mr Hussain said that we are neither against the Pakistan, the Army, the Police or the State Agencies.  We are of the view that the State Agencies should confine their duties within the constitutional boundaries and they should not interfere in the affairs of the MQM or any other political party.  He appealed to the Establishment to listen to the grievances of the MQM, provide solution to the problems and stop conspiring against the MQM.

Addressing the people of Korangi, Qasba Colony and Gulbahar, Mr Hussain said that he would like to extend his heartfelt condolences to the relatives of all those innocent MQM workers who have been ruthlessly and extra-judicially murdered.  He said that he understood their pain as his own brother and nephew were also extra-judicially murdered.  Speaking of the “disappeared” workers, he said that to date their whereabouts are not known and justice has not been served to their families.  He said that when the people at the helm of affairs could not provide justice to the oppressed then Allah Almighty takes action and their demonic rule is crushed and blown away.  He appealed to the people to remain united and by the Grace of Allah Almighty, a time will soon come when the system of oppression would be rooted out and replaced with a just system.  He also lauded the efforts of the MQM workers for organising the public gatherings.
