31ST OCTOBER, A TRAGIC DAY IN THE HISTORY OF COUNTRY: ALTAF HUSSAIN

London: 30th October 2010: Mr. Altaf Hussain Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement has said that the tragedy of 31st October 1986 was a sinister conspiracy to pitch oppressed nationalities of Pakistan against each other. In a statement issued on the 24th anniversary of the tragedy of 31st October 1986 he said that it was for the first time in the history of Pakistan that MQM propounded the idea of leadership from poor and middle class people which was anathema to the beneficiaries of the feudalist system prevailing in the country.

The historic Convention of MQM of 8th August 1986 had sorely disturbed the exploitative forces in the country and hence in order perpetuate their rule the hatched a conspiracy of “divide and rule” and tried to pitch Urdu speaking people and other nationalities against each other. It was because of this conspiracy that the processions of MQM heading towards Hyderabad were attacked at Sohrab Goth in Karachi and at Market Chowk in Hyderabad on 31st October 2010. Scores of MQM workers were martyred and injured in order to drag the people belonging to poor and middle class into an internecine feud and to sow the seeds of enmity between them.

Mr. Hussain said that the despicable conspiracy was foiled by the people through their unity. He paid rich tributes to the martyrs of 31st October 1986 and said that the sacrifices rendered by the martyrs will not go in vain and just as they gave their lives for the noble cause, “we will also not spare any sacrifice for the achieving that noble cause.”
