ALTAF HUSSAIN APPEALS TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
Demands that re-lection should be held under the supervision of UN team

London, Saturday, October 12, 2002
Mr. Altaf Hussain, Founder and Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) addressing public meetings in Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, said, “I request the Secretary-General of United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan, the President of United States of America, Honourable George Bush, the Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Honourable Tony Blair, European Head of States, members of the European Union, members of the Human Right Organizations and last but not least, the members of the European Monitoring Team who are currently present in Pakistan for the purpose of monitoring the recent Elections 2002. I request them to take immediate and serious notice of naked rigging in Pakistan General Elections held on October 10, 2002.  Please ask the President of Pakistan General Musharraf to declare these elections null and avoid. The MQM has solid evidences of rigging and MQM has firm belief that through manipulation these election results were changed to bring Pakistani-Taliban in the assemblies and in the corridor of the power. In short I would say that these elections were not held to restore democracy in Pakistan but to bring Talibanization in Pakistan.  The MQM totally reject these rigged results and demand that re-lection should be held under the supervision of UN team.   I like to assure
the international community that the 95% of people of Pakistan are against Talibanization and I would like to express that the 95% of the people are democratic minded and liberal, and are against all types of religious fanaticisms.  I would request the International Community should take serious notice of long delay in the announcement of the results particularly in Karachi, Southern Pakistan.”
