Dr Imran Farooq, Convenor of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) to meet the resigned members.

Karachi - 30 October 1999

A meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) took place at its central office, generally known as "90", in Azizabad, Karachi, yesterday. This meeting was convened to discuss the situation of the nine members of the MQM who had resigned from the party in August 1999. The meeting was presided by Dr Imran Farooq, Convenor of the MQM over the telephone from London.

During the meeting, it was decided that Dr Imran Farooq, on behalf of the Co-ordination Committee should meet the resigned members to discuss the differences. This was agreed to avoid further delay in resolving this issue that resulted due to the inclusion of the names of the members of the Co-ordination Committee in the Exit Control List by the Government, denying them the Freedom of Movement. These members were expected in London months ago to solve the differences.

In view of the unanimous decision, Dr Imran Farooq will meet the resigned members at the International Secretariat of the MQM on Sunday, 31st October 1999.
