KARACHI: Senator Nasreen Jalil of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has strongly condemned the continued raids at the houses of party supporters and claimed that the police were threatening the family members of the underground workers that if they did not re-surfaced, they would receive their bodies.

Addressing a press conference at MPA Hostel Azizabad on Sunday, she said that the city had been turned into a police state, whereas no accountability had been made against the police excesses on citizens, particularly Muttahida workers and supporters.

She said that illegal activities of the police were going unchecked and extra judicial killings were still continuing. She expressed deep concern over the raids conducted by the police at the houses of party workers without any arrest-warrants and lady searchers.

The senator said that if any of the Muttahida workers or supporters was killed extra-judicially then the president and chief justice would be responsible for the murders. She also urged them to take notice of the situation.

She said that the government had lost its credibility for its alleged involvement in sectarian killings. She also condemned the registration of FIR against Muttahida after police were questioned by the Muttahida people about carrying out search of the cars of opposition leaders at Nine-zero on Saturday.

Nasreen also condemned the harassment of Dr Farooq Sattar. She alleged that the Inspector General of Police, Sindh, had now become the most powerful man as even the diplomats contact him for help and not the governor or Adviser to Prime Minister on Sindh Affairs.

On the occasion, she presented mother of two Muttahida workers Imran and Akram and claimed that her house was being continuously raided by the police for the arrest of her underground son.

She alleged that the police were threatening Najmunnisa that she would find the bodies of their sons. Earlier, addressing at Haj ballot ceremony of Muttahida supporters at Khusrheed Begum Memorial Hall Azizabad on Sunday, she said that this was being held against the quota allotted to the party legislators. She further said that previously telephone quota of legislators was also allotted to the people through the same system.

At least 70 persons were lucky to get their names for Haj through balloting. Meanwhile, Muttahida MPAs Zahid Qureshi and Ehsanullah have stated that the police were trying to change medico legal report of Muttahida worker Rehan Bandhani.

Yet another Muttahida Senator Mustafa Kamal has stated that Nawaz Sharif had no right to stay in power after his government failed to provide security to the people and restore peace in the country.
