MQM will never support any policies like the NRO which is against the manifesto of MQM
and against the wishes of the people – Altaf Hussain

On the principle stand if we have to quit the government we will prefer that but we will not give up the righteousness

MQM wants to abolish the feudal and corrupt political culture – Address to the historical election rally at Skardu

London – 5th November 2009

The founder of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr. Altaf Hussain said that MQM has always taken principle stand on every national issue including NRO and it will never support such laws which are against the manifesto of MQM and against the wishes of people. He further said that on the principle stand if we have to quit the government we will prefer to do it but we will not give up the righteousness. He said this during his telephonic address to a historical election rally at  Skardu. The address was attended by thousands of people, which included men, women, children and elderly, from surrounding areas like Ghanchay, Shagar and Baltistan. Due to the huge number of people who arrived for the rally, there was a shortage of space, thus several people had to listen to the address while standing outside. The address was attended by the members of Rabita Committee which included Waseem Aftab, Saleem Tajik, Tauseef Khanzada, member of National Assembly Haider Abbas Rizvi, in charge of the provincial organizing committee of MQM Altaf Zaidi, along with the MQM leaders and candidates of Gilgit Baltistan.

In his address Mr. Altaf Hussain said that MQM always propagated principle politics. MQM had adopted a principle stand on every national issue including NRO. He further said that MQM will never support any law or ordinance which is against the manifesto of MQM and against the wishes of the people. He added that the MQM would prefer to quit the government for the sake of truth and principles. MQM is the only party which has been working against the prevalent corrupt and feudal system in Pakistan since past 30 years. Not only this, MQM is the only party which has broken the rule of feudal and heritage system in Pakistan and brought in well educated people from the lower and middle class into politics solely on the basis of merit. None of these people are blood relations of Altaf Hussain, just workers and  supporters of the movement. He quoted the Quran: “The truth may survive while the fake and lies will always perish”, and its today because of the will of Allah that the idea of MQM has reached from Karachi to Kashmir, and now even the flag of righteousness if flying high in the beautiful hills and valleys of  Gilgit  Baltistan. Even the history of Islam proves that one should always support the truth as the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Hazrat Imam Hussain preferred getting beheaded instead of bowing to Yazid, and today Altaf Hussain is the only one who is following his footsteps and struggling for the truth. In this cause Altaf Hussain lost his thousands of workers and followers who were martyred including his 66 year old elder brother Nasir Hussain, 28 year old nephew Arif Hussain. In this struggle of righteousness his all brothers and sisters were displaced but he never bowed against the oppressors.

Mr. Altaf Hussain said that MQM has always kept Pakistani nationalism first. All Pakistanis are equal, although they may belong to any religion, caste, color, race or creed. MQM has always taught that here should be no hatred amongst the people on the basis of Sunni, Shi’a, Deobandi, Barelvi, and Wahabi rather should follow Allah who says in the Quran “My religion is with me, your religion is with you” and also  clearly states in the Quran “There is no compulsion in religion, then why the fight amongst Sunnis and Shi’a’s? Mr. Altaf Hussain said MQM believes in religious harmony and everyone belonging to any sect should respect each others sect. MQM would struggle to bring unity and harmony between Shias and Sunnis so that they live like brothers as in Karachi, Hyderabad and other parts of Sindh. He also said that MQM supports the demand of the people of Gilgit Baltistan to provide their administrative unit with law and constitutional security and will play its full role in Senate and National Assembly. He further said that MQM respects the struggle and the sacrifices of the people of Gilgit Baltistan against Dogra rule and honour the decision of the people of Gilgit Baltistan for the annexation with Pakistan in 1947. Mr. Altaf Hussain highlighted the problems of Gilgit Baltistan and demanded the government for special quota in the educational and technical institutions in all over the country for the students of Gilgit Baltistan. There should be a passport office in every district headquarter for the people of Gilgit Baltistan. He also demanded to the Federal Government to take serious notice on the concerns of the people of Gilgit Baltistan on the issues of Bhasha Dam, Diyamar Dam and Shindoor Polo Ground. More jobs should be given in police and their salaries should be more than the other provinces or at par. There should be a special quota in the jobs of government departments for the people of Gilgit Baltistan. The salaries of the government servants must be increased due to inflation. He demanded for special attention to the tourism and special grant to be given for this department. Engineering and Medical universities should be formed in these areas. Dams should be formed to resolve the electricity issue. Steps should also be taken to use the natural treasure of the land. Skardu airport should be given the status of being an international airport. A dam should be formed via the Sat Para Dam which would provide water to the several acres of barren land of Baltistan and the land should be divided amongst the poor people of the area. If the land is taken for government use, the government should pay for the land. They should be given the right to cast votes in other parts of the country alike Kashmiris. In CSS the quota of Gilgit  Baltistan is along with the quota of FATA, instead they should be given separate quota. Mr. Altaf Hussain said that if MQM’s government is formed in Gilgit Baltistan, they will not only work to solve their problems but also build more and more schools in the area to make education easier. Industrial zones will be formed to provide work to the unemployed. Institution would be made for the development of sports and culture and the historical sport of Polo. Measurements will be taken to look after their natural forests and live stock. Old age benefits and labour departments will be formed for government employees. He said that the people of these areas living in Karachi will be given representation in city government. They would be given chances in the city and provincial governments. The work of Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation would be spread and hospitals and ambulance centers would be built in Gilgit Baltistan.

Mr. Altaf Hussain appealed to the people of Gilgit Baltistan to support MQM candidates. He appealed the voters to stamp on the KITE which is the election symbol of MQM. He also praised the work of the MQM members who worked hard day and night to make the election rally successful. He has expressed his grief at the death of Sher Bahadur, the candidate of MQM for GBLA-19, and prayed for the family. Finally he introduced the MQM  candidates from different constituencies.
