ALTAF HUSSAIN’S MESSAGE ON THE DAY OF HAZRAT  ALI’S MARTYRDOM.

London, 17 November 2003
The MQM leader Mr. Altaf Hussain in his message on the day of Hazrat Ali’s martyrdom said that he was not only a cousin of the last messenger of God Mohammad Mustafa (P.B.U.H) but also the husband of the prophet’s beloved daughter, Hazrat Fatima.

Hazrat Ali joined the ranks of Muslims soon after Hazrat Khadija.  According to the consensus of scholars he was 9 to 10th years of age.  He therefore devoted most of his life in the company of Hazrat Mohammad. He learned so much from Hazrat Mohammad (P.B.U.H) that he is quoted to have said that  “I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate”.  There are innumerable services of Hazrat Ali for Hazrat Mohammad and Islam that reflect his devotion to him, but here I would like to quote Hazrat Abbas.  He said “ Hazrat Ali experienced four things that no one else had the opportunity to experience.  Firstly, he was the first person to offer prayers along with the prophet, secondly he accompanied the prophet in every war, thirdly, he placed his life in danger the night prophet decided to emigrate, and lastly he was the one who gave the prophet his last ablutions and placed him in the grave.” Mr. Altaf Hussain said that we should learn from the example of Hazrat Ali.  Telling lies and deception has become a way of life in our society.

It is essential for us to understand what Hazrat Ali said about such vices.  Hazrat Ali said, “Do not make friends of those who tell lies. Only those can be trusted, and their friendship relied upon who abstain from falsehood. They are the ones on whose support you can count and depend on their company at the time of adversity. He further stated if you have to stay at a friend’s residence, then choose the one that does not tell lies. A truthful friend is a true friend. A liar only makes false promises and gives false assurances but when the crunch comes he disappears just like a fox. Liars are also greedy people. They desert you at the time of hardship and trial. Do not keep the company of those who tell lies, keep away from liars as they will destroy you”. Mr Altaf Hussain reiterated that we should take account of ourselves and ask whether we tell lies! However, today we should resolve to abstain from falsehood and those who are liars. We should resolve to obliterate the curse of falsehood from our society. May God help us!
