DR IMRAN FAROOQ STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE BASELESS ALLEGATIONS LEVELLED AGAINST THE MQM BY ARIF NIZAMI

London - 6 November 2000

Dr Imran Farooq, Convenor of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) strongly condemned the baseless allegations levelled against the MQM by Mr Arif Nizami, the owner of Daily Nawa-e-Waqt in his interview to the BBC Hindi Service today.  During this interview, in response to a question by the BBC correspondent, Mr Nizami said that an MQM worker had accepted responsibility for the previous rocket launcher attack on the premises of the Nawa-e-Waqt.

Dr Imran Farooq said that this allegation is totally baseless and without foundations and is nothing but a smear campaign against the MQM.  He said that the baseless and irresponsible statement from Mr Nizami is a reflection of his chauvinistic thinking against the Mohajir Nation and their sole representative political party, the MQM.

Dr Imran Farooq asked Mr Nizami that there are so many leaders in Pakistan then what was the purpose of specifically mentioning the name of Mr Altaf Hussain, the Founder and Leader of the MQM, third larges political party of Pakistan, in his interview? What was his intention? What he wanted to tell the entire world and the international community?  Dr Imran Farooq said that we strongly condemn this shameful indirect allegation.

Dr Imran Farooq said that it is very saddening to hear such baseless allegations levelled by Mr Nizami against the MQM.  He reiterated that MQM believes in non-violence, democracy and is against all sorts of terrorism.  Reminding Mr Nizami, Dr Imran Farooq said that Islam does not allow any person to tell a lie or level baseless allegations against others.  He also suggested Mr Nizami that being a responsible person and owner of a huge publication organisation he must think many times before accusing others.
