BASHEER AHMED FAROOQI PASSED AWAY IN KARACHI

Karachi: 14 September 1999

Mr. Basheer Ahmed Farooqi son of Ramzan Ali, Member of MQM Central Co-ordination Committee and former Minister for Transport, Government of Sindh, passed away this morning at 4:35 a.m. PST, in Ramidale Hospital, North Nazimabad, Karachi. He was 75 years old and was severely ill for past many months.

Mr. Basheer Ahmed Farooqi was elected as a Haq Parast Member of Sindh Provincial Assembly in the General Election of 1997. After the commencement of the Army Operation in June 1992, he along with other elder persons joined the MQM Elders Wing and actively participated in running the affairs of the party in times of test and endurance. During the Operation Clean-up against the MQM, the Central Office of the party at Azizabad Karachi commonly known as Nine Zero, was raided several times by the law enforcement agencies. During such raid he was arrested and manhandled by the law enforcement agencies.

Mr. Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of the MQM has expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family members.

Mr. Basheer Ahmed Farooqi has left behind three sons and three daughters.
