DESPITE ASSURANCES OF THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE GENERAL MUSHARRAF, MQM BEING VICTIMISED UNABATED

The Chief Executive General Parvez Musharraf had categorically said that the Balochis, Sindhis and the MQM would not have any complaints from Federal Government any more in a speech during his recent visit to Abu Dhabi.

The Mohajir nation, in its aftermath, had breathed a sigh of relief that the State persecution would now cease. However, that sigh of relief now emanates as an oasis in a desert. The raids, arrests, torture of Mohajirs in general and the MQM workers in particular continue unabated. The details are as follows:

During the night and the early hours of 30th and 31st October 1999, the personnel of Baldia Town Police Station of Karachi headed by Nasrullah Jadoon raided an area of Baldia Town, Karachi. The raid was launched by a large contingent of police in their vehicles and armoured personnel carriers (APCs). The fully armed police personnel besieged the entire area during the house-to-house search.

The houses (B-373, B-374, B-375, B-376 and B-377) of the MQM workers were brutally searched and the members most ruthlessly dealt with.   That included merciless beating, intimidation, forcible extortion and inhuman behaviour even with women; besides other houses. The houses were plundered, in particular, the house of Mohammad Yameen.

In the absence of one MQM worker, Mohammad Yameen, his father Mohammad Yasin brutally tortured included banging of his head against the wall resulting in multiple fractures. He was unlawfully arrested and taken into the State custody.

Similarly, in the early hours of 30 October 1999, the personnel of Orangi Ext. Police Station, led by SHO Mumtaz Awan (notorious for extra-judicially murdering several MQM workers and supporters) raided the residence of Hasrat, a worker of MQM Unit 119, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi, and arrested him.  In another raid, the same party arrested Abdul Sattar, an MQM worker of Unit 119, Sector Orangi Town, from his residence.

Moreover, on 27 October 1999, Irshad son of Abdul Sattar, a worker of MQM Unit 79, Sector Korangi was unlawfully arrested from the premises of the City Court in Karachi by Sub Inspector Amin Khokhar.  At present, he is being detained and tortured at the City Court Police Station.
