DR IMRAN FAROOQ PAYS TRIBUTE TO DR FAROOQ SATTAR ON HIS VOLUNTARY ARREST

London-26 November 1999

Dr Imran Farooq, Convenor of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) applauding on voluntary arrest of Dr Farooq Sattar, Member of the Co-ordination Committee and former Mayor of Karachi said that MQM from this act, has, once again, proved that MQM is not only a law abiding Party but also free from any type of corruption. Not only the people of Pakistan but the democratic quarters of the world are fully aware that the MQM is the only party in Pakistan that is free from the pollution of corruption. MQM has been under the State persecution all along due to the refusal of its leadership to be the part of the corrupt political culture and misappropriations. Continuing his statement, he said that MQM never tolerated any corruption or misappropriations in its ranks and file and thorough impartial investigation were carried out against anyone found guilty of corruption or misappropriation and expelled from the party.

Dr Imran Farooq, further added that allegations of terrorism, anti-state, creating Jinnahpur and others were levied against the MQM but that made no difference in the popularity of Quaid-e-Tehreek (founder) Altaf Hussain and the MQM. And under a new conspiracy, to taint the image of the MQM, nationally and internationally, it is being involved in the baseless charges of corruption. The robbers, thieves and pirates, who looted the country are freely roaming and none of them have been arrested while Dr Farooq Sattar, who served the city and the country for years is neither a defaulter of a penny nor involved in any corruption, his house was raided, plundered and his employees subjected to brutal torture.

Dr Imran Farooq said that MQM is the only party that has offered itself for voluntary accountability and Dr Farooq Sattar offered his voluntary arrest in this regard. "This act has proved that MQM is a law abiding party and we would watch out that how well the justice is served by those, who implement law. The Justice should not only be done but seen to be done", he added. He further said that no torture should be inflicted on Dr Farooq Sattar like in the past or coerced confessional statements extracted from him in custody, as has been a practice against the MQM workers in the past.

Concluding his statement, Dr Imran Farooq emphasised that the people at home and the democratic quarters of the world would like to witness whether the giant feudal lords and landed aristocracy responsible for looting the country are brought to docks of the courts or not? Dr Imran Farooq paying tribute to Dr Farooq Sattar on his voluntary arrest said that he had taken a courageous and righteous step and appealed to the people and workers to remain united and to defeat all the conspiracies through their unity and resolve.
