MQM WORKERS AND LEADERS HONOURABLY ACQUITTED IN HAKIM SAID MURDER CASE

Karachi – 31 May 2001

An appellate bench of Sindh High Court, Pakistan, have today honourably acquitted all the nine workers and leaders in the famous Hakim Said Murder Case.  The Bench comprised of Justice Ghulam Mohammad Soomro and Justice Ata-Ur-Rehman who announced their unanimous decision on Thursday at 9.05 a.m., (PST).

Mr. Hakim Said, a well-known scholar and philanthropist was murdered on 18 October 1998 in front of his clinic in Karachi.  The then Government of Mr. Nawaz Sharif unlawfully arrested MQM workers on the false allegation of this murder.  These workers were awarded capital punishment by an illegal and unconstitutional Anti-Terrorist Court, especially established by the Sharif government, in May 1999.

It is also noteworthy that soon after the murder of Hakim Said, the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif imposed the Governor’s Rule in the province of Sindh.  The foremost reason for the imposition of the Governors Rule was declared the deteriorating law and order situation.  However, today the honourable acquittal, from the Sindh High Court, of the MQM workers who were falsely implicated in the Hakim Said Murder case is a clear proof that all the allegations by the Establishment against MQM are false and concocted.

Now the people of Pakistan are asking that who are the real murderers of Hakim Said and where are they?
