27 May 2000

The personnel of CIA Police Jamshed Quarter led by notorious Inspector Haider Baig raided and ransacked the house of MQM worker Ghufran Hameed.   During the raid they tortured, humiliated and harassed the family members for seven hours and kept them hostage at the gunpoint.

According to details, on 27 May 2000, at around 3:00 a.m., the personnel of CIA Police Jamshed Quarter led by Inspector Haider Baig raided the residence of Ghufran Hameed son of Abdul Majeed in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.  As Ghufran Hameed was not present in the house, the raiding party brutally subjected the elderly parents to torture.  The mother of Ghufran Hameed was dragged by her hair all along the house.  His father was so mercilessly beaten that his face has been swollen.  The most horrific and horrendous part of the raid was that the raiding party made the family hostage and stayed in the house for seven hours.  During this time they continued with their humiliation and harassment to the family members.  Ghufran Hameed is the Joint Incharge of All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation (APMSO - Student Wing of MQM) Urdu Science College Unit.

The human rights organisations and the international community are requested  take urgent notice of the atrocities and the highhandedness of the law enforcement agencies, on the behest of the successive governments in Pakistan including the present military government, against the innocent people of the Mohajir Nation living in the province of Sindh, southern Pakistan and their sole representative political party, the MQM.
