MQM demands PM's nomination in Fasih's killing

KARACHI: Deputy Convener MQM Coordination Committee Dr Farooq Sattar has termed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as one of the alleged murderers involved in the extrajudicial killing of MQM worker Fasih Ahmed alias Jugnu.

He demanded of the president, the COAS and the chief justice Supreme Court that keeping in view the recent investigation report, the prime minister, the interior minister, the IG Sindh and the DIG Karachi be nominated in Fasih's extrajudicial killing and a case be registered against them.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Monday, Farooq demanded of President Rafiq Tarar that in the light of investigations of extrajudicial killings of five MQM workers, an enquiry by Supreme Court judges should be held against the police officers involved in Fasih's murder.

He said the prime minister had accused the MQM of Hakim Said's murder on TV. He said as Nawaz had claimed that he was personally monitoring the investigation during which Fasih had expired in police custody, so he was also allegedly involved in the extrajudicial killing.

Farooq feared that the 15 police officers who had been accused of Fasih's murder might be eliminated just like SHO Haq Nawaz, the investigating officer in Murtaza Bhutto murder case. He demanded that they should be arrested but instead of being given into police custody, they should be handed over to such an institution which was not under the influence of the local administration and Islamabad. The deputy convener claimed that the murder of Hakim Said would be solved if the accused police officers were properly interrogated.
