London 15 March 2009

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement Mr. Altaf Hussain emphasised that one day MQM will dismantle the corrupt medieval feudal system of Pakistan that has virtually rendered Pakistan rogue. He was addressing over telephone on three days annual convention to celebrate the silver jubilee of the MQM organised by the MQM USA in Virginia.

Federal Minister and Deputy Convenor of the MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar, Mayor of Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal, Pakistani Ambassador Hussain Haqqani, Former US Ambassador to Pakistan Ms. Wendy Chamberlain, Candidates for the governorship of State of Virginia Bob McDonald, Brian Moran, Christian Religious Leader Father Bob Menard, Jewish Religious Leader Mr Sam Korson, Hindu Religious Leader Peram Dham Perbhu, Muslim Religious Leader Imam Javed Bhayat, Former Advisor to Former President G. Bush, Mr Hanif Akhtar, Chairman Human Rights Commission in Prince William County Mr Curtis Porter, Chairman Prince William Board of County Supervisors, Mr Corey A Stewart, Chairman Pak American Business Association Mr Sheikh Siddique, Vice Chairman US-Pak Business Council Mr Adeel A Shah and Members of the MQM U S A Organising Committee also addressed to the gathering.

In his address Mr. Altaf Hussain warmly welcomed all participants and said that On 11 June 1978, he formed APMSO (All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation) as a result of the deprivation of the fundamental right to education of the Mohajir students in their own country, province and cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and other urban centres where Mohajirs are in majority. As a result of the “Quota System” local Mohajirs were deprived of admission in the universities and professional colleges and deprived of rooms in hostels despite having better and required grades in comparison to the students of other provinces of Pakistan or rural areas of Sindh as well as governmental jobs. However, he further said that shortly after our emergence of APMSO in the educational institutions, his colleagues and he were violently pushed out of the universities and colleges by Islami Jamiat Talaba (Jamiat), a Students Wing of Jamat-e-Islami depriving them to continue their education.

He said that having violently pushed out of the educational institutions, his colleagues and he started awareness programme in the local neighbourhoods where their message was widely accepted. Therefore, on 18 March 1984 he formed Mohajir Quami Movement (MQM) that emerged from working and lower middle class cadre of the society in urban Sindh province of Pakistan. Soon after the assassination of the first Prime Minister of Pakistan Khan Liaquat Ali Khan in 1951, the feudal politicians took over the mantle of power and joined hands with a few corrupt Generals laying down the foundations of the feudal-military nexus that was later joined by the Mullahs (Religious fanatics). He added that these corrupt feudal leaders and military Generals started to marginalise Mohajirs in a sustained manner reducing them to third grade citizens. As a result of widespread popularity MQM soon after its emergence became the third largest political party in Pakistan and the second largest in the province of Sindh. Mr. Hussain said that MQM success story started with the Local Bodies Elections in 1987 when the MQM overwhelmingly won the Elections in Karachi and Hyderabad and as a result MQM Mayors and Deputy Mayors from Karachi and Hyderabad were elected unopposed. He said that in the General Elections of 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002 and 2008 MQM won with greater majority than the previous election. Presently MQM has 25 Members in the National Assembly of Pakistan, 51 Members in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh and 6 Members in the Senate of Pakistan. In 2005, Local Bodies Elections, MQM once again, overwhelmingly won the Local Bodies Elections in the urban cities of Sindh and resultantly the Mayors in the City of Karachi and Hyderabad were elected from the MQM. Syed Mustafa Kamal, the Mayor of Karachi, now present amongst you, was ranked amongst the top 3 Mayors in the world by the FP (Foreign Policy) magazine of the United States of America, recently.

Mr. Altaf Hussain said that in 1992, the then Government of Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif commenced an Army Operation against the Mohajirs in general and the MQM in particular in which over 15,000 workers and supporters of the MQM including my 66 years old brother Mr Nasir Hussain and 28 years old nephew Mr Arif Hussain were unlawfully arrested and were extrajudicially executed on 9 December 1995. During this struggle the Mohajirs achieved world wide recognition as a 5th nation in parallel to Punjabi, Sindhi, Baloch and Pukhtun.

Mr. Hussain said that MQM is the only liberal and secular party in Pakistan that opposes the religious fanaticism and terrorism in its essence and spirit. MQM has been a main ally of the Government of Pakistan and the United States of America in the “Global War against Terrorism”. After 9/11 Massacre, MQM took out a mammoth rally attended by more than a million people in Karachi on 26 September 2001 in solidarity with the United States while the rest of Pakistan was enraged. Again, on 15 April 2007, MQM staged a “Rally” in Karachi in protest against the Red Mosque take over by the terrorists belonging to Taliban. He said that on 26 July 1997, on the request of the people of middle class and working people of Pakistan, The Mohajir Quami Movement was transformed to Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) to struggle for the rights of 98 per cent working and middle class of Pakistan with the a wish that one day MQM will dismantle the corrupt medieval feudal system of Pakistan that has virtually rendered Pakistan rogue. That one day MQM will establish “Egalitarian Rule” whereby every citizen of Pakistan would be treated in equality irrespective of caste, creed, colour, gender, faith, belief and even religion. That one day MQM will ensure that the minorities have the freedom to worship in Pakistan without fear and their lives and their properties and place of worship protected by the State. That one day MQM will rid the country of the menace of religious terrorism, fanaticism, sectarianism and defeat Talibanisation in Pakistan generally and Sindh and Karachi in particular. Mr. Hussain also said that Karachi has been surrounded by many madras where the student takes holy education who came from northern areas they also taking jihadis training from Taliban militant they are planning to burn girls school. MQM is committed never ever allow any one to burn any school in Karachi, he added.

Mr. Hussain further said that one day Pakistan will be truly a democratic, economically vibrant and investment friendly country where not only the citizens of Pakistan but of the world would invest and profit, create employment and opportunities for the people of Pakistan. That one day Pakistan will be a peaceful and a model country where tourists of the world would feel free to travel and cherish their holidays in Pakistan. That one day Pakistan would be free of the curse of Child Labour, Bonded Labour Camps, Karo-Kari, slavery in the rural areas, private jails of the feudal lords and tribal chieftains would be abolish. Mr. Hussain said that MQM demands provincial autonomy, local policing and abolish feudalism in Pakistan. He said that the democracy is by the fuddle to their fuddle their democracy is by the people to the people. MQM fight the struggle of women rights MQM also fight minorities rights and MQM wants close relation ship with all nab hour countries.
