GENERAL MUSHARRAF SHOULD FIRST EXPOSE THE DEVIOUS ELEMENTS WITHIN THEN CRITICISE THE EXTERNAL ENEMIES – ALTAF HUSSAIN

London – 23 March 2002
Mr Altaf Hussain, MQM Founder & Leader, while commenting on the President Musharraf’s speech to the nation today has stated that the he has spoken about the ideals of determination, aspirations and sectarian harmony, which no one disagrees with, however, justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done.

Mr Hussain said that during the past one year, hundreds of Shiite doctors, Shiite and Sunni religious scholars were murdered, American journalist Daniel Pearl was murdered, the National Protestant Church in Islamabad was attacked and innocent people killed.   Terrorist attacks upon mosques and imam bargahs, bomb blasts, sniper firing, murders of innocent people while praying in the mosques and imam bargahs, the senior and renowned journalists who wrote the details of these atrocities were kidnapped and tortured.  As a result several journalists were compelled to seek political asylu+m overseas fearing for their lives, honour and property.  None other than our own country’s intelligence agency committed all such heinous acts.  Not a single murderer behind the horrific killings of hundreds of innocent people and those responsible for the kidnapping and torture of journalist has been apprehended.  Neither has any secret agency been questioned over these incidents.  Whereas the journalists who sought asylum in foreign countries clearly mentioned the name of the “secret agency”, which is responsible for the wickedness, inciting violence, orchestrating massacres and sponsoring terrorism.   However, to date no action has so far been taken against these “secret institutions” or the “hidden hands” nor the public has been informed of their criminal activities. Mr Hussain said that if President Musharraf is sincere in his views then instead of talking about external enemies, he should first expose the devious and scheming elements within, otherwise his speech would be considered as a mere formality.
