REPORTS OF RAIDS, ARRESTS AND HARASSMENT ON EID DAY UPON THE MQM LEADERS, WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS

The personnel of Pirabad Police Station, Karachi led by SI (Sub Inspector) raided the house of In-charge of MQM Unit 132. In his absence they ransacked and looted the house and misbehaved with his family members.

The personnel of Garden Police Station arrested Farhan s/o Sabir Hussain and Shahid s/o Hashmat Ali. They are being detained at an unknown destination. They are being subjected to brutal torture.

“Haqiqi” terrorist with heavy contingent of Police have resorted to heavy indiscriminate firing to harass the area residents of unit 157, 159, 162, 163, 164 and 165, so that MQM workers and supporters could not freely move around to collect the hides and skins of sacrificial animals.

The workers of “Sunni Tehrik” including Asif led by its Sector In-charge Raza resorted to indiscriminate firing around the area of Eidgah near “Central Mosque Siddiq”. These fanatics and terrorist were riding on four motorbikes and had the police protection. After resorting to violent firing and also at the volunteers who miraculously escaped injury. The fanatic terrorists snatched twenty hide and skins from the volunteers of the KKF.

Pakistan time: 2.30 pm
The eyewitness accounts claimed that the police and C I A personnel in Korangi no.1, Korangi no. 1 ½, Areas “S” and “R”, Korangi ward 72, Korangi “32B” area, Korangi ward 75, Korangi 41B and Korangi 2 ½ falling within the jurisdiction of Zaman Town Police Station, Karachi are harassing Mohajirs travelling either in their cars or motor bikes. The uniformed Police and plain clothed C I A (Crime Investigating Agency) personnel are obstructing Mohajirs from donating hide and skins to the KKF.

The eyewitness accounts said that the personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station, Karachi has forcibly snatched a motorbike bearing registration number 2474 and four (4) pieces of hide and skin. We are waiting for further details of the incident and the victim. The donor was taking the hide and skin to the KKF but intercepted by the police on his way to the KKF.

Again, according to the eyewitness accounts the personnel of New Karachi Police Station, Karachi forcibly snatched another motorbike bearing registration number KCA2548. The donor was taking the hide and skins to the KKF when he was intercepted by the police mobile bearing registration number 561.

Irfan, Ghulam Hussain, workers of APMSO (All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation) of Sector C, Karachi. Four other MQM workers have been arrested, name of two are Adil and Imran while the names of the other two have not been received, so far. These four workers also belong to the APMSO. The personnel of the Arambagh Police Station arrested them from Khaliq Dina Hall in Karachi where they were volunteers to collect hide and skins for the KKF.

The personnel of Arambagh Police Station, Karachi raided the houses of two MQM workers of the Burns Road Sector of the MQM, namely Imran and Fahim. The personnel of the raiding police party ransacked and looted the houses of both workers, used abusive language and mercilessly beat members of the household. The police dragged both workers by pulling their hair and threw them into their mobile vehicles. The Police is harassing the people and volunteers for stopping the donation to and collection of hide and skins of the sacrificial animals for KKF. The arrested persons have been taken to unknown destination.

The personnel of Arambagh Police Station are practising widespread high handedness against the Mohajir nation in Karachi, harassing Mohajir neighbourhoods donating skins to the KKF and volunteers collecting hide and skins. The police mobiles are patrolling the areas threatening the supporters and sympathisers of MQM not to donate the hide and skins to the KKF. In a separate raid, the police arrested the volunteers belonging to the APMSO (All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation). The names of the arrested persons are: Adil, Anis, Adnan and Irfan. They have been taken to an unknown destination.

In another raid by the personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station, Karachi, police arrested two MQM workers of MQM Unit They were volunteers collecting hide and skins for 159 of Liaquatabad, namely Kalim and Naeem. the KKFfor the arrested volunteers. Police also beat the . The police ransacked and the house during the raid members of the household and warned neither to donate the hide and skins to the KKF or collect on its behalf. The armoured personnel carrier that picked up these volunteers bore the registration number MNK 3544 and took the arrested persons to an unknown destination.

The personnel of Garden Police Station raided the house of Jawed and arrested him. Jawed is a worker of MQM Unit 31, Lyari Sector, Karachi. He is being detained at unknown destination.

Pakistan time: 8.45 am
Eyewitness accounts testified that the personnel of Garden Police Station in Karachi are harassing the neighbourhood of Ranchoor Line. The police are stopping the people from donating the hide and skins of sacrificial animals to KKF (Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation), a charity of the Mohajir nation. Police is also stopping KKF volunteers from collecting hide and skins despite having written permission from authorities permitting them collection of the hide and skins.

Pakistan time: 4.00 pm
The personnel of Buffer Zone Police Station raided the house of Khalid. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with his family members. Khalid is a worker of MQM Unit 137-A, Sector North Karachi, Karachi.

Pakistan time: 3.15 pm
The personnel of Buffer Zone Police Station and CIA police have resorted to heavy indiscriminate firing in area 15/A-2 Buffer Zone, MQM Unit 134-A, Karachi, and have unlawfully confiscated a truck load of hides and skins of sacrificial animals collected by the MQM workers and supporters. They have also arrested MQM workers Aftab, Zeshan Hyder, Asif and five other workers.

Heavy contingent of Police have raided several houses of MQM workers and supporters in Unit 164, 165 and 166. During this raid several MQM workers have been arrested and several have been brutally tortured by the police for working for the MQM.

The personnel of Khwaja Ajmer Nagri Police Station led by ASI Korai, have arrested Imran and Anwar, MQM workers of North Karachi.

1. The personnel of Lyari Police Station have reported to snatched the hides of sacrificial animals collected by the MQM.

2. The personnel of law enforcement agencies in plain clothes have resorted to heavy indiscriminate firing to harass the area residents so that MQM workers and supporters could not freely move around to collect the hides and skins of sacrificial animals. Moreover, several incidents of arrests of MQM workers have also been reported.

3. At around 11.37 am, the personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station arrested Mr Zahid Qureshi, MPA belonging to the MQM.

4. In Korangi, the personnel of Police have arrested two brothers, who are workers of MQM Korangi Unit.

5. In Sharfabad, Karachi, the Police have unlawfully confiscated a van load of hides and skins of sacrificial animals collected by the MQM workers and supporters. They have also arrested MQM worker Naeem and the driver of the van Mahboob.

6. Incidents of harassment, raids and arrests have also occurred in areas of Garden, Mahmoodabad, Kareemabad, Liaquatabad and Orangi Extension in Karachi.

7. The personnel of Gulberg Police Station have confiscated another vehicle carrying hides and skins. The women workers of MQM who were present in the vehicle have also been arrested along with Mr Abdul Qadir Lakhani, MPA belonging to the MQM.

The personnel of Saudabad Police Station have arrested Umair Zaidi, an MQM worker of Unit 102, Malir.

Pakistan time: 5.55 am
The personnel of Mahmoodabad Police Station led by SHO Nazir Bajwa raided the house of Hanif, Incharge of MQM Mahmoodabad Sector in Manzoor Colony, Karachi. In his absence they ransacked the house and arrested his younger brother Jehangir, who is 16 years old. He has been taken to the Mahmoodabad Police Station.
