Mr Altaf Hussain has declared an Emergency in MQM due to Tropical Cyclone Phet
The MQM has released Rs 2.5 Million for effectees of cyclone and heavy rain

: 5the June 2010...MQM Founder and Leader Mr Altaf Hussain has declared an organizational  emergency due to cyclone Phet, and has urged all office bearers, workers and volunteers hailing from Sindh and Baluchistan to come forward and aid the attempt of helping the souls in danger of this cyclone by giving shelter and all relevant forms of relief as much as possible. He was talking over telephone to the members of Central Coordination Committee of MQM, Karachi Mazafati Organizing Committee, Medical Aid Committee, other wings including Zones of Interior Sindh and Yousuf Shahwani, Organizer of MQM Baluchistan. Mr. Altaf Hussain inquired about the state of the coastal areas like Ibrahim Haidery, Thatta and Badin from the relevant office bearers. The office bearers told Mr. Altaf Hussain about the problems due to expected cyclone being faced by the displaced persons in these coastal areas.  Later Mr. Altaf Hussain separately phoned Yousuf Shahwani, Organizer MQM Baluchistan and asked about all the problems and losses being faced by the effected persons of areas like Gawadar, Jiwani and other areas. Mr. Altaf Hussain expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the loss and stated that the MQM has released funds of Rs. 2.5 Million to counter the situation. He instructed the Coordination Committee to immediately mobilize resources and man power in the coastal areas of Sind like Karachi, Badin, Ibrahim Haidery, Baba Bhit Island, Shamspir, Manora, Salehabad Thatta etc. These efforts must ensure the immediate provision of shelter, food, water and all necessary supplies to the people of these areas. Mr. Altaf Hussain also instructed the medical wing of MQM and KKF to kick start its efforts and provide medical attention to the effected personnel. Mr. Altaf Hussain made an appeal to the public and particularly to the philanthropists to donate necessary essentials like water, clothing, milk, edible items and necessary supplies to the central camp of KKF in Karachi or in Hyderabad or anywhere in Sindh
