LIAQUAT BALOCH, JAMAT-E-ISLAMI LEADER LEGITIMISES RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN OUTSIDE MARRIAGE

TARIQ JAWAID AND SALIM SHAHZAD

London – 22 June 2007

Mr Tariq Jawaid, Senior Deputy Convenor and Mr Salim Shahzad Member of the Central Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in their statement said that Liaquat Baloch, a leader of Jamat-e-Islami having legitimised the relationship between a man and a woman in a televised programme of a private television has uncovered the face of Jamat-e-Islami that was shrouded under the veil so far. They further added that the anchor asked Liaquat Baloch whether he considered appropriate or inappropriate the act of fathering of an illegitimate child in relationship outside marriage on the basis of which this reference has been filed. Liaquat Baloch replied that filing of reference under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution is inappropriate having said this the Jamat-e-Islami Leader reflecting the policy of Jamat-e-Islami not only legitimised an immoral act of relationship between men and women but also legitimised birth of illegitimate children outside marriages.

Mr Tariq Jawaid and Mr Salim Shahzad lamenting this statement said that according to Jamat-e-Islami if a rich man violates the laws of Hudood Allah, he stands exonerated while the poor stand punishable. They reiterated that this statement is an open declaration of hypocritical policy of the Jamat-e-Islami. They further added that while men and women celebrate New Year’s Eve, it stands unjustified in the eyes of Jamat-e-Islami while an act of rich Imran Khan which is not only shameful but against Islamic jurisprudence stands justified is hypocritical because it ostensibly appears that in the eyes of Jamat-e-Islami licentious acts by the rich is exempt from the Laws of Hudood Allah.
