FOR PAKISTAN’S SUSTENANCE AND SURVIVAL, PEOPLE AT THE HELM OF AFFAIRS MUST ABOLISH THE FEUDAL SYSTEM: ALTAF HUSSAIN

Karachi – 11 June 2003
Survival of Pakistan and the prevailing feudal system are two opposite poles.  If people at the helm of affairs want Pakistan’s survival then they must abolish the feudal system.  This was stated by Mr Altaf Hussain, MQM Founder & Leader, on Wednesday eve at Jinnah Ground in Azizabad during the Silver Jubilee of APMSO.  Large number of MQM and APMSO members were present at Jinnah ground.

Mr Hussain said that India gained independence one day after Pakistan, i.e. 15 August 1947.  India is a larger country as compared to Pakistan on the basis of area and population.  People of different religions, nations, culture and languages dwell in India.  In spite of this, one nation concept is comparatively stronger in India than in Pakistan.  In Indian Army and Police, people are recruited from every nation, race and linguistic background, whereas the Pakistani Army and Police comprise mainly of people from provinces of Punjab and NWFP.  He asked, are people of Sindh and Balochistan not human beings? The issue of law and order and good governance in any province can be better resolved by the people of the respective provinces.

Mr Hussain said that economically Pakistan is not strong as compared to India.  The literacy rate in India is much higher than that of Pakistan and India is far ahead in the field of information and technology.  At the time of independence, currency of Pakistan was stronger than that of India.  However, today the Indian currency as compared to Pakistani Rupee is stronger. The literacy ratio is much higher in India than in Pakistan.  People from different religion and schools of thought reside in India but the ratio of sectarian violence is much less as compared to Pakistan.  India is far ahead in the field of information technology, computer science and other technical fields as compared to Pakistan.

Mr Hussain said that the reason behind India’s development and success in every field is that soon after independence they got rid of the feudal system.  Whereas the medieval feudal system still exists in Pakistan.  In the presence of feudal system, neither democracy can be strengthened nor can one nation concept become stronger. The country can develop in any field.  The feudal system breeds murder and destruction, promotes weaker one nation concept, deteriorating facilities for education and health, clean drinking water and general economic conditions.  After 25 years of Pakistan’s independence, i.e. in 1970, the only representative party of the poor and middle-class people of the country, i.e. Awami League, achieved a clear majority in the General Elections. However, the feudals of West Pakistan in collusion with the Army Generals agreed to divide of country instead of handing over the power to the representative party of the poor and middle-class people.  Mr Hussain further said that MQM and APMSO is the second party, which represents ninety-eight percent poor and middle-class people of the country.  Guardians of feudal system levelled baseless allegations against the MQM with a view to malign its image in the eyes of poor and middle-class people of Pakistan to prevent the spread of MQM’s philosophy.  These allegations were used as the basis to launch an army operation against MQM. With the blessings of Allah Almighty, despite oppression and the army operation,  we are today celebrating the 25th anniversary of APMSO.  He reiterated that he will continue to speak the truth till his last breath even if treason charges will be registered against him for speaking the truth.  He warned the people at the helm of affairs that if they do not start thinking wisely and according to the modern aspirations to abolish the feudal system then the future of Pakistan looks bleak.  Mr Hussain assured that if feudal system is abolished and religious parties are banned from participating in elections then Pakistan will not only strengthen but no power on earth could destroy it.

Addressing the workers of APMSO, particularly the students, Mr Hussain said that development and prosperity of the country depends upon the youth. If they practically acquire good education, culture, training, skills and modern information then the future of such nations becomes bright.  The educated nations and countries not only practically demonstrate democracy but their courts are also independent and free.  He stressed upon the students to get education with honesty and dedication, respect the teachers, elders, women and their parents and do away with cheating in the exame.  Keep good company so you can play leading role in the Movement in future.

Mr Hussain reminded that in the righteous struggle of 25 years, thousands of our companions sacrificed their lives for the ideology but refused to trade their conscience.  Each and every worker of the Movement pays tribute and respect to these martyrs.  He also paid tributes to the detained worker, who remained steadfast despite all the hardships of detention, to the displace families for demonstrating commitment and resolve, to exiled companions who remained determined and to all workers of the Movement for facing the oppression and tyranny.  He stressed upon all the workers to observe discipline and remember that lack of discipline promotes commotion and if discipline is maintained then the outcome is destiny.  Mr Hussain presented his heartiest congratulations to all the participants on the occasion of Silver Jubilee of the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation (APMSO).
