PEACEFUL STRIKE CALLED BY MQM AND JSQM ON WEDNESDAY 13 JUNE 2001

Karachi -- 11 June 2001

MQM and JSQM called for a peaceful strike on Wednesday, 13 June 2001, to protest against the killings of innocent protestors of JSQM, who were peacefully protesting against the water shortage in Sindh Province, southern Pakistan. This announcement was made by the leaders of MQM and JSQM during a press conference held today at the Karachi Press Club. Mr Altaf Hussain, Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), has ratified the peaceful strike call of MQM and JSQM.

MQM and JSQM appealed to the transporters, shopkeepers, traders and peoples from all walks of life to voluntarily keep their businesses close and keep the transport off road to protest against the ruthless General Dyer Style Operation against the peaceful protestors in Sukkur on 10 June 2001.

MQM and JSQM have also appealed to the people of Sindh to also observe 13 June 2001, as the Day of Mourning in remembrance of the brutally murdered JSQM workers.
