REACTION OF THE MQM CENTRAL COORDIATION COMMITTEE OVER GENERAL PARVEZ MUSHARRAF ASSUMING HIMSELF AS THE PRESIDENT

Karachi – 20 June 2001

The Coordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in a joint statement said that assuming himself as the President and taking oath by General Parvez Musharraf, itself indicates that the 1973 Constitution has completely failed to save and maintain democracy in the country and has also failed to ensure the basic and fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan.  According to 1973 Constitution, General Parvez Musharraf’s action is illegal and unconstitutional.  Once again, it has been proved that the Army holds “supreme power” and is above the Law and the Constitution.  Who can stop the Army in Pakistan from taking any action?
