ANOTHER INNOCENT MQM WORKER GULZAR AHMED EXTRAJUDICIALLY MURDERED IN HYDERABAD

Hyderabad – 30 June 2000

On 29 June 2000, at around midnight, another MQM worker Gulzar Ahmed was extrajudicially murdered in Hyderabad by plain clothed personnel of Police in an ambush attack.  According to details, when Gulzar Ahmed along with his wife reached his house, five-armed plain clothed personnel of police opened indiscriminate fire upon him.  Another MQM worker Raheel was also seriously injured.  The assailants continued to fire indiscriminately after the incident and later very calmly left the scene of incident.  It is pertinent to note that a few yards from the incident a marriage ceremony was taking place and there are several eyewitnesses who saw these five-armed men attack the car of Gulzar Ahmed.  They were immediately recognised as Ali, Sher Dil, Yousuf, Mohammad Ali and Arshad.  Arshad is an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Mohammad Ali is a police constable and Ali is a police informer.  It is also important to note that despite heavy presence of the paramilitary rangers and police in the area, none of these law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene.  Later some officials of the police came to the hospital and threatened the family members not to perform the post-mortem of the corpse.

It is also learnt that all these five assailants were roaming in the area since the evening.  They had planned their attack and were waiting for Gulzar Ahmed to come to his residence.

Gulzar Ahmed 30, was the Incharge of MQM Unit 31, Sector-H, Hyderabad.  He was also the President of Ata Chakki Owners Association in Hyderabad.  He was married and the only son of his parents.  He has left behind his wife and a six-month-old son.

The extrajudicial murder of Gulzar Ahmed is the continuation of the Establishment’s policy to crush the MQM and physically eliminate its leaders, workers and supporters.  More than 15000 innocent MQM workers and supporters have been ruthlessly murdered since the commencement of the Army Operation on 19 June 1992.
