PRESENT CRISIS GOES TO THE VERY HEART OF THE VIABILITY OF THE STATE OF PAKISTAN

A landmark conference on ways of "Governance and Human Rights in South Asia" was held in Washington DC at the Capitol Hill on 8 June 1999. The conference was organised by several US Senators, Congressmen, officials of human rights organisations and State Department functionaries.

Senator Nasreen Jalil, Deputy Convenor of MQM was the main speaker in the conference. In her speech, she said that the present crisis which centres on the status of the Mohajir Nation goes the very heart of the viability of the State of Pakistan.

She explained that the chronic lack of confidence remarked by outsiders stems from the fact that Pakistan justified itself negatively.
