By our correspondent

KARACHI: The founding leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain on Tuesday condemned the government for neglecting the rehabilitation of cyclone hit people and demanded rehabilitation on war footing.

In a statement issued from London, Altaf said huge losses occurred due to cyclone but the government was making only cosmetic measures as the affected people were still stranded and were waiting for real help and rehabilitation by the government.

Altaf said by neglecting the poor of Sindh during their tough time, the government was indulging in criminal negligence and demanded of the President to take serious notice of the matter and provide justice to the affected people and make arrangements for their compensation and rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee of the MQM condemned the arrest of a former councilor of the party, Younus Mansoori by Rangers. Major Abbasi of Sachal Rangers had arrested Mansoori and efforts were being made to implicate him in old cases, it was said.

The Coordination Committee demanded of the President and the COAS to take notice of the affair and stop the government from using the Rangers for political purposes. The MQM body also demanded immediate release of Mansoori and other MQM workers and supporters.

In yet another statement, the MQM MNAs Nishat Malik and Hasan Musanna Alvi have condemned the government allowing the police to shoot at sight. They said the police were killing innocent people, particularly the workers and supporters of the MQM, under the garb of eliminating terrorists.
