25 May 1999

At around 5 p.m., the personnel of Nazimabad Police Station arrested Asif Siddiqui from Gilani Phatak, near his house in Nazimabad. Asif Siddiqui 30, son of Mahfooz Hussain Siddiqui, is a resident of Nazimabad, Karachi. He is an office bearer of MQM Labour Division, KDA Unit.

23 May 1999

  1. At around 2.30 a.m., the personnel of Malir Police Station and Paramilitary Rangers raided the residence of Hasan Alam and arrested him. They also confiscated his motorcycle. Hasan Alam 35, son of Mumtaz Ul Haque, is a resident of KDA Scheme I, Karachi. He is the Member of MQM Malir Sector Committee.
  2. At around 8.40 p.m., Ali Asghar was standing outside his house when the personnel of Saudabad Police Station arrested him. Ali Asghar 30, son of Ali Bahadur, is a resident of Malir, Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 198, Sector Malir.

20 May 1999

At around 3 a.m., the personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station, led by SHO Sarwar Commando raided the residence of Nadeem and arrested him. Nadeem Ahmed Khan son of Ansar Ahmed Khan is a resident of Liaquatabad, Karachi. He is the brother of Javed Ahmed Khan and Kaleem Ahmed Khan, both very active workers of MQM Unit 159, Sector Liaquatabad.

19 May 1999

At around 5:00 a.m., the personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station arrested Akram Niazi immediately after his release from the main gate of Karachi Central Prison, in Karachi. He is being detained at the Liaquatabad Police Station, Karachi. Akram Niazi son of Yousuf is worker of MQM Unit 162, Liaquatabad Sector, Karachi.

18 May 1999

  1. At around 12:00 a.m., the personnel of C.I.A Police arrested Shahid Ajmeri from the street of Hyderabad. Shahid Ajmeri son of Shafi Mohammad Ajmeri is Incharge of MQM Sector "O" Committee, Hyderabad. He is being detained at the Market Police Station, Hyderabad. He is being subjected most brutal torture.
  2. The personnel of Section "A" Police Station and other plain clothed personnel arrested Rashid Abbasi from the commercial area. Rashid Abbasi son of Sana Ullah is member of MQM Unit 4 (cant), Hyderabad. He is being detained at the Section "A" Police Station, Hyderabad.
  3. At around 2:00 a.m., the personnel Orangi Town Police Station led by DSP Qamar raided the temporary residence of Mohammad Sharif Kiyani at Alkaram Square, Federal Capital Area. and arrested him. Mohammad Sharif Kiyani 40, son of Mohammad Islam is a worker of MQM Unit 125, Qasba / Ali Garh Sector, karachi.

17 May 1999

At around 11 a.m., the personnel of Risala Police Station and Momanabad Police Station arrested Syed Izhar Hussain and his brother Azeem Ushshan from the City Court in Karachi. At the time of the arrest his mother who was also accompanying her sons was brutally tortured by the police. Both Syed Izhar Hussain and Azeem Ushshan are brothers of Nadeem, a very active worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Qasbah Aligarh. Those arrested are: (1) Syed Izhar Hussain 45, and (2) Azeem Ushshan 32, sons of Syed Irshad Hussain.

16 May 1999

At around midnight, the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station led by SHO Haji Nadeem and Mahmood alias Bhoora, arrested Aslam from the Liaquat National Hospital in Karachi. He was visiting his mother who is hospitalised there. Aslam 28 son of Abdul Hameed is a worker of MQM Unit 125, Qasba and Aligarh Sector, Karachi.

15 May 1999

At around 4.30 p.m., the personnel of C.I.A Police arrested Asad from the near Shaheen Complex in Karachi. Asad Noor 28, son of Kamil Noor, is a resident of PIB Colony, Karachi. He is the Joint Incharge of MQM PIB Sector Committee.

14 May 1999

At around 2.30 a.m., the personnel of Momanabad Police Station raided the residence of Mohammad Ashfaq and arrested him. Mohammad Ashfaq 24, son of Mohammad Ilyas is a worker of MQM Unit 124, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi.

12 May 1999

  1. At around 12.30 p.m., heavy contingent of New Karachi Police Station in mobile vans and private cars, led by the infamous police officer SHO Zahid Taufeeq raided the residence of Rashid Hussain and arrested him. During this raid they tortured his elderly father, ransacked the house and looted the valuables. SHO Zahid Taufeeq has also threatened the family members that he will murder Rashid and that the family can collect his corpse tomorrow.

    Furthermore, at around 4.30 p.m., SHO Zahid Taufeeq conducted another raid at the residence of Rashid Hussain and arrested his four brothers namely Abid Hussain, Khalid Hussain, Shahid Hussain and Asif Hussain.

    Keeping in view the murderous record of SHO Zahid Taufeeq, it is strongly apprehended that the lives of Rashid Hussain and his brothers are in grave danger and that they could be extra-judicially executed.

    Rashid Hussain 20, son of Zahid Hussain, is a resident of 29/13 New Karachi, Karachi. He is an active worker of MQM Unit 140, Sector New Karachi.

  2. Today at around 11.30 a.m., the personnel of police attacked the Nine Zero, Head Office of the MQM. They siege the entire area resorted to heavy unprovoked and indiscriminate firing to intimidate and terrify the local residents, who are predominantly Mohajir. Gunshots were fired at the second and third floor of the houses in and around Nine Zero in Azizabad, Karachi. It is reported that personnel of police were firing from the top of police mobiles with the G-3 rifles and other automatic arms. Due to the intensity of the firing, the area residents are terrified and harassed fearing their lives in danger. Particularly, the women and children are traumatised and in a state of shock at this sudden and heavy attack of the law enforcers at Nine Zero and the area within its vicinity.
  • Later at around 12.15 p.m., a police spokesman called the MQM Head Office and abused Mr. Hassan Musanna Alvi, MNA and Member of Co-ordination Committee of MQM. The police officers threatened Mr. Alvi of dire consequences and accused him of sheltering MQM workers. The police spokesman also threatened Mr. Alvi that shortly a raid will be conducted at Nine Zero and all those present will be taught a lesson.

    At around 9 a.m., the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station arrested Kausar Ali 28, son of Fayyaz Ali Siddiqui from Banaras Chowk in Karachi. His sister is a worker of MQM Ladies Wing. He is being subjected to most brutal torture. It is to be noted that the police officers are demanding huge amount for his release.

    The personnel of Garden Police Station arrested Sarhan Yousuf from City Court in Karachi. His mother is a worker of MQM Unit 151, Ladies Wing, Sector Federal B Area. Sarhan Yousuf 13, son of Yousuf Uddin is being detained at the Nabi Buksh Police Station.

    At around 4 p.m., the personnel of Napier Police Station and CIA police arrested Rashid Ali from NIPA Chorangi in Gulshane Iqbal, Karachi. Rashid Ali 28, son of Shaukat Ali is a Member of MQM P.I.B Sector Committee.

    7 May 1999

    1. The personnel of CIA Police of Sukkur, raided the temporary residence of Rizwan Ahmed in Bhawal Pur City and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Sukker Zone. He is resident in Sukkur City.
    2. The personnel of C.I.A Police Sukkur and C.I.A Police Karachi raided the temporary residence of Adnan and arrested him and his cousin Ehsan. They are workers of MQM Sukkur Zone. Those arrested are: (1) Adnan 18 and (2) Mohammad Ehsan 28, son of Mohammad Ishaq
    1. The personnel of C.I.A Police Sukker, cordoned the street near the Qatar Hospital in Karachi, and arrested two workers of MQM Sukker Zone. Those arrested are: (1) Mohammad Ayub 28 and (2) Khusi Mohammad 35, son of Noor Mohammad

    The personnel of Orangi Town Police Station cordoned the street near the Imam Bargah in Sector 1-D, Orangi Town, and arrested six workers and supporters of MQM Unit 124, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. Those arrested are:

    1. Mohammad Asif 27, son of Mohammad Qayyum
    2. Mohammad Kamal 25, son of Qamar Uddin
    3. Mohammad Naeem 30, son of Mumtaz
    4. Noor Mohammad 25, son of Mohammad Habib
    5. Shakeel Ahmed 26, son of Mohammad Shaukat
    6. Shaukat Ali 25, son of Mohammad Hanif

    5 May 1999

    1. In the early hours, the personnel of C.I.A police raided the house of Mashkoor Alam in Orangi Town, Karachi. In his absence they ransacked the house and arrested his two younger brothers. Mashkoor Alam is a worker of APMSO (All Pakistan Mohajir Student Organisation). Those arrested are: (1) Mansoor Alam son of Manzoor Alam and (2) Masroor Alam son of Manzoor Alam
    2. The personnel of Baldia Town Police Station raided the house of Sarwar and arrested him and his elder brother Sabir. Sarwar is a worker of MQM Unit 112, Sector Baldia Town, Karachi.
    3. The personnel of Orangi Town Police Station raided the shop of Sajid Iqbal in search of his brother Arshad Iqbal, who is an active worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Orangi Town. In his absence they arrested his brother Sajid Iqbal. The raiding party then raided the residence of Arshad Iqbal and in his absence, ransacked the house and arrested Rashid Iqbal, another brother of Arshad Iqbal.

    At around 3:45 a.m., the personnel of New Karachi Police Station led by SHO Taufeeq Zahid arrested Naved Akhtar from his sister's house. Naved Akhtar 25, son of Akhtar Mohammad Khan is a brother of Shoaib, a worker of MQM Unit 157, Liaquatabad Sector, Karachi. He is being subjected to most brutal torture.

    At around 7 p.m., the personnel of C.I.A police arrested Zia Uddin from the food shop. Zia Uddin 31, son of Naseer Uddin is a worker of MQM Unit 132, Sector Qasba/Aligarh, Karachi.
