SOS - LIFE IN DANGER - NAEEM KHAN, MEMBER OF MUTTAHIDA ORGANISING COMMITTEE BEING BRUTALLY TORTURED DURING ILLEGAL DENTENTION IN HYDERABAD, PAKISTAN

London - 23 July 2001

Naeem Khan, Member of Muttahida Organising Committee in Hyderabad, is being severely tortured while being illegally detained at the City Police Station in Hyderabad. He was arrested two days ago from Hyderabad. Since the time of his arrest, his whereabouts have not been disclosed to the family members. Today, however, the family members were called to bring breakfast for him at the City Police Stationin Hyderabad. When the family members met with Naeem Khan, they were shocked to witness the torture marks. It was evident that he was severely tortured and was given electric shocks. He was so much mentally and physically tortured that he refused even to recognise his family members, which strengthens the apprehensions that his life is in extreme danger.

We appeal to the President and the Interior Minister of Pakistan to take serious notice of such barbaric torture being unleashed upon innocent Naeem Khan, which has severely damaged him physically as well as mentally. We also appeal to the national and international human rights organisations to take serious notice of the gross violations of human rights perpetrated against the MQM office bearers and workers in Pakistan.
