ANOTHER MQM WORKER EXTRA-JUDICIALLY MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD BY KARACHI POLICE

On 2 July 1999, at around 1.30 a.m., the personnel of Frere Police Station in plain clothes ruthlessly murdered Waqar, an active worker of MQM Unit 6, Sector Defence. According to details, plain clothed personnel arrested Waqar from a restaurant in Delhi Colony, Karachi. Immediately after his arrest, Waqar was shot down at point blank range. For the next two hours no one including his family members were allowed to remove the corpse from the street.

Waqar 21, son of Siddique is a resident of Delhi Muslim Colony, Karachi. He was unmarried and leaves behind his elderly parents and seven sisters. It is important to note that for the past several days ASI Khurram and ASI Babar of Frere Police Station were inquiring about his whereabouts and threatening the family members and neighbours that Waqar would be killed as soon as he is apprehended.

The law enforcers in Karachi, notorious for extra-judicial killings nationally and internationally and for custodial deaths of MQM workers and supporters, have now changed their tactics. They are now operating in plain clothes to deceive the national and international community that no extra-judicial killings are taking place.

Since the suspension of elected Sindh Assembly and imposition of Governor Rule in the province of Sindh, dozens of MQM workers have either been murdered extra-judicially, illegally arrested, tortured in custody, falsely implicated in murder cases and awarded death penalties by the PML Government appointed Anti Terrorist Courts judges.

28 June 1999

  1. The personnel of CIA Police arrested Mohammad Iqbal from his shop at Sher Shah, Karachi. Mohammad Iqbal 40, son of Mohammad Ramzan is a worker of MQM Unit 112, Sector Baldia Town, Karachi.
  2. At around 3 a.m., the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station raided the residence of Mohammad Aslam. In his absence they ransacked the house and arrested his brother Mohammad Younus 30, son of Mohammad Ismail. Mohammad Aslam is a worker of MQM Unit 124, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi.

23 June 1999

  1. At around 11:30 a.m., the personnel of New Karachi Police Station, led by SHO Taufiq Zahid raided the residence of Salman Ahmed, a worker of MQM Unit 142, Sector New Karachi. In his absence they ransacked the house and arrested his brother Shakeel Ahmed 36, son of Wakeel Ahmed.
  2. At around 2:30 a.m., the personnel of Garden Police Station arrested Laeeq Ahmed from the Ram Swami area of Karachi. Laeeq Ahmed 35, son of Abdul Rasheed is a worker of MQM Unit 136, Sector North Karachi. He is being detained at the Garden Police Station and subjected to brutal torture.
  3. At around 7 p.m., the personnel of Hyderi Police Station and other plain clothed personnel raided the house of Mansoor Ghouri and arrested him. Mansoor Ghouri 28, son of Ayub Ghouri is the Incharge of MQM Unit 171, Sector North Nazimabad. He has been brutally tortured and implicated in false cases.

21 June 1999

  1. The personnel of Sukkur "C" Section Police Station raided the residence of Mohammad Zakir Khan and arrested him. Mohammad Zakir Khan 30, son of Mohammad Anwar Khan is a member of Sector Committee of Sukkur. He is being detained at the Section "C" Police Station, Sukkur.
  2. At around 10 p.m., the personnel of CIA Police arrested Mohammad Arshad while he was on his way to meet his mother. Mohammad Arshad 22, son of Mohammad Iqbal is worker of MQM Unit 125, Orangi Town Sector, Karachi. He is being detained at the CIA Centre, Saddar, Karachi.
  3. The personnel of CIA Police arrested Abdul Sattar from the street. Abdul Sattar 28, son of Nazeer Ahmed is a worker of MQM Unit 112, Baldia Town Sector, Karachi. He is being detained at the CIA Centre, Karachi.

20 June 1999

At around 8 p.m., the personnel of Sukkur Police Station arrested Qamar Mohammad from a local café shop. Qamar Mohammad 28, son of Shabbir Ahmed is member of Sector Committee "A" Sukkur. He is being brutally tortured.

16 June 1999

  1. In the early hours, the personnel of police and other plain clothed law enforcers raided the house of Mohammad Naeem son of Mohammad Hanif, in Society Block, Lines Area, Karachi. In his absence they ransacked the house and arrested his younger brothers Mohammad Waqas 12, and Mohammad Fahad 13, sons of Mohammad Hanif.
  2. The personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station, and Para Military Rangers raided the temporary residence of Mohammad Tahir and arrested him. Mohammad Tahir 29, son of Mohammad Yaseen is a very active worker of MQM Unit 166, Liaquatabad Sector. He is being subjected to brutal torture.
  3. At around 12:30 a.m., the personnel of Rizvia Police Station raided the temporary residence of Syed Itrat Hussain and arrested him. Syed Itrat Hussain Zaidi 28, son Syed Rahat Hussain Zaidi is a worker of MQM Unit 185, Nazimabad Gulbhar Sector, Karachi. He is being detained at the Rizvia Police Station.
  4. At around 2:15 a.m., the personnel of CIA police raided the residence of Mohammad Mohammad Rashid son of Mohammad Idrees Malik. In his absence they arrested his three brothers. Mohammad Rashid is a worker of MQM Unit 125, Orangi Town Sector, Karachi. Those arrested are:

13 June 1999

The personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station raided the temporary residence of Khursheed Ghani and arrested him. He is the father of Mohammad Arshad, an innocent worker of MQM Liaquatabad Sector, Karachi. Khursheed Ghuni 45, son of Abdul Rasheed is being detained at the Liaquatabad Police Station. On the same day at around 5 a.m., the personnel of CIA police once again raided the house and arrested his two brothers-in-law, i.e. Anwar 35, and Arshad 22. They are being detained at the Liaquatabad Police Station and being subjected to brutal torture.

8 June 1999

  1. The personnel of Azizabad Police Station, led by SHO Ghuzanfar Kazmi raided the temporary residence Mohammad Ibrahim and arrested him. Mohammad Ibrahim 32 son of Mohammad Yousuf is a member of MQM Liaquatabad Sector Committee. He is being detained at the Sharifabad Police Station and being brutally tortured.
  2. The personnel of Azizabad Police Station, led by SHO Ghuzanfar Kazmi raided the temporary residence Mohammad Noshad, and arrested him. Mohammad Noshad is a very active worker of MQM Unit 164, Liaquatabad Sector, Karachi. He is being subjected most brutal torture.

7 June 1999

  1. The personnel of Orangi Town Police Station, led by SHO Haji Nadeem raided the temporary residence of Faisal Ansari and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Unit 185, Sector Nazimabad Gulbhar, Karachi. He is being detained at the Orangi Town No. 5 Police Station.
  2. At around 2 p.m., the personnel of Para Military Rangers arrested Younus Mansoori from the Habib Bank, New Chali Annexe Building, Karachi. Younus Mansoori 34, son of Yousuf Mansoori is an Ex Counsellor of Liaquatabad, Karachi. He is being detained at the Rangers Head Quarter and subjected to brutal torture.
  3. The personnel of CIA Police raided the temporary residence of Shafiq Ahmed and arrested him. Shafiq Ahmed 32, son of Mohammad Ilyas is the Incharge of MQM Unit 79, Korangi Sector, Karachi. He is being detained at unknown place and has been implicated in false cases.

4 June 1999

  1. The personnel of New Karachi Police Station raided the residence of Ilyas and arrested him. Ilyas 55, is a member of MQM Elder Committee.
  2. The personnel of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station raided the residence of Adil Taqvi and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Unit B-66, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Sector, Karachi. The same police party raided the residence of Rashid and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Unit B-66, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Sector, Karachi. They are being detained at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station.
  3. At around 3 p.m., the personnel of CIA Police and Para Military Rangers raided the residence of Mohammad Rashid Malik and arrested him. Mohammad Rashid Malik 25, son of Mohammad Idrees Malik is a worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Qasba Ali Garh Sector. He is being detained at the New Karachi Police Station, where he is being subjected to brutal torture.

2 June 1999

At around 8 p.m., the personnel of Para Military Rangers arrested Syed Asghar from near the Bus Stand No. 60. Syed Asghar 22, son of Syed Tehzeeb Hassan Zaidi is a worker of MQM Unit 139, Sector New Karachi. He is being detained at the New Karachi Police Station.

1 June 1999

At around 5 p.m., the personnel of Nawab Shah A Section Police Station raided the residence of Riaz Ahmed. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with his family and arrested his father Niaz Ahmed 70, son of Natho Khan. It is feared that he would be implicated in false cases.

30 May 1999

The personnel of Hyderabad Police Station raided the house of Saraj Rajpot. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with his family. He is the Incharge of MQM Sector "E", Hyderabad Zone. The same police party raided the house of Mohammad Idrees and in his absence they abused his family. The raiding party also looted the valuables and confiscated the family photographs. Mohammad Idrees is a member of MQM Sector "E" Committee, Hyderabad Zone.

25 May 1999

The personnel of Quaidabad Police Station raided the house of Syed Yousuf Hyderi. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with his family and arrested his four sons. Those arrested are: Syed Ghous 14, Syed Dawar 20, Syed Farooq 25 and Syed Hamza 30.
