UNLAWFUL ARRESTS OF MQM WORKERS

 

Abdul Rauf Moghul, S/O Abdul Shakoor Moghul, age 35, married and a resident of Sector 7/F, Al-Muslimabad, DMC West, Qasbah Aligarh Colony, Karachi

 

Personnel of the Orangi Town Police Station of Karachi headed by its Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore raided the house of the above named MQM worker of Unit 130, Aligarh Qasbah Colony Sector between 4.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. on 13th. January 2001. During the raid, the police team and its head pulled Abdul Rauf Moghul by his hair and spontaneously started inflicting brutal torture by punching his face and body, kicking by boots and buts of the guns. The raiding police personnel mercilessly beat up the members of the household and molested women. The police systematically looted and plundered the house stealing cash, jewellery and other valuable items.  

 

Mohammad Rafique, S/O Qurban, age 13years, student  and a resident of Sector 7/F, Al-Muslimabad, DMC West, Qasbah Aligarh Colony, Karachi

 

Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore of Orangi Police Station, Karachi having arrested Abdul Rauf Moghul and inflicting brutal torture in custody of the State for several hours, forced him to take the police to the house of another MQM worker Hamid of Unit 130. According to the eyewitness accounts, in the morning of 14th. January 2001, Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore and other personnel of Orangi Town Police Station sieged the house of Hamid with armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and police mobiles. The raiding police team broke into the house of Hamid and immediately started beating the members of the household including beating and molesting women. In the absence of Hamid, the police arrested his nephew Rafique, an MQM supporter. The police, as usual, looted the house stealing cash, jewellery and other valuable items. Sub-Inspector Aslam Rathore told the household members to produce Hamid and exchange Hamid with Rafique. We have just learned that the police is trying a fabricate a case against Abdul Rauf Moghul, however, they have not just yet come up with any specific allegations.
