POLICE BESIEGED THE DAILY "AMN" OFFICE IN KARACHI, ONE OF THE LARGEST URDU LANGUAGE NEWSPAPER PUBLISHED IN KARACHI.

The MQM Co-ordination Committee has strongly condemned the Nawaz Sharif Government’s action of besieging the office of one of the largest circulated Urdu language newspaper, the daily "Amn" in Karachi.

While receiving the report, the sources at the daily "Amn" confirmed that eight police "Mobiles" (trucks) loaded with police personnel, accompanied with an SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate), DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) and SHO’s (Station House Officers) encircled the office of the daily "Amn" at around 8.00 p.m. (Pakistan Time) today, 29th. January 1999, said the Members of the Co-ordination Committee.

The Members of the Co-ordination Committee said that after having demolished the other pillars of the State, the Government of Nawaz Sharif has now embarked on the dastardly act of targeting the freedom of Press and Speech. The Nawaz Sharif Government having targeted and intimidating the largest Publication Group the "Jang" has now started victimising the Daily "Amn", they said.

The Members of the Co-ordination Committee strongly warned the government to refrain from their totalitarian and fascist actions and ward off their attack not only against the Press but also against minority political parties, religious minorities and all ethno-linguistic minorities.
