AVAILABLE REPORTS OF RAIDS, ARRESTS AND TORTURE OF THE MQM WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS

6 January 1999

  1. At around 8 p.m., the personnel of CIA and Police raided the PIA Hostel at Karsaz in Karachi and arrested Shamim. He is an office bearer of All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation (APMSO -- student wing of MQM) Sector D.
  2. At around 2 a.m., the personnel of CIA raided the temporary residence of Zaki Uddin and arrested him. Zaki Uddin 35, son of Mohammad Wali Uddin resident of Irfan Corner Block 7, Federal B. Area, Karachi. He is a member of MQM Sector Committee of Federal B. Area. The raiding party tortured Zaki Uddin, ransacked the house and arrested two other MQM workers namely; Ayaz and Kamran.
  3. At around 3:30 a.m., the personnel of CIA (Saddar) raided the temporary residence of Adnan and arrested him along with six other MQM workers. Adnan Haider 30, son Fatheyab Hussain, residing at Flat No. 120, Block X, Labour Square, Site Area, Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 74, Pak-Colony Sector.
  4. At around 1 a.m., the personnel of Paramilitary Rangers and Police cordoned off the area of Musa Colony. They started indiscriminate firing injuring several workers and supporters of MQM. During the siege and search operation they raided the residence of Fareed, an MQM worker of Unit 156, Sector Liaquatabad. As he was not present in the house, the raiding party ransacked the house and threatened the family.
  5. At around 8:30 p.m., the personnel of Police raided the residence of Saeed Pasha, Member of Muttahida Organising Committee of MQM. In his absence they ransacked the house.
  6. At around 5 p.m., the personnel of CIA arrested Khalid while he was driving his taxi. Khalid 28, son of Abdul Qadeer residence of New Karachi, is a worker of MQM Unit 139, Sector New Karachi.
  7. At around 12 noon, the personnel of CIA raided the Office of Fire Brigade and arrested Mohammad Mairaj Khan 21, son of Mohammad Waseem Khan. His mother is an active worker of MQM Women Wing and performs her duties at the MQM Central Office "Nine Zero". He was taken to Gulberg Police Station where he was hung upside down and brutally tortured to divulge the whereabouts of one Abrar Sheikh, a worker of MQM.

5 January 1999

  1. At around 7 a.m., the personnel of Jamsheed Quarters Police Station raided the residence of Ikhlaq Ur Rehman, a worker of MQM Elders Wing. He performs his duties at the MQM Central Office. As he was not present in the house, the raiding party arrested his son Saif-Ur-Rehman 21, son of Ikhlaq Ur Rehman, resident of Quarter no. 75/ 14, New Karachi, Karachi.
  2. At around 4 p.m., three MQM workers Asif, Tauseef and Usman left their homes to attend the iftar party in Korangi 2-1/2. They never returned home. It is strongly feared that they might have been arrested by the Police or kidnapped by the Haqiqi terrorists.

4 December 1999

1. At around 4 am., the Rangers and other law enforcement agencies raided a house B-337 in Hasrat Muhani Colony, Karachi and arrested four MQM workers of Unit 186, Sector Pak Colony, who were temporarily residing there. Those who were arrested are:

  1. Sharif son of Mohammad Sadiq, an office bearer of MQM Unit 186.
  2. Naseem Sheikh son of Haji Habib, a worker of MQM Unit 186.
  3. Naeem Raja son of Qudrat Ullah, a worker of MQM Unit 186.
  4. Nabi Ahmed son of Mohammad Umer, a worker of MQM Unit 186.

2. The paramilitary Rangers raided the temporary residence of Zaman Shah, Incharge of MQM Unit 192-193, Sector Lines Area, and arrested him.

3. The personnel of Napier Police Station raided the residence of Mohammad Umer son of Faiz Mohammad and arrested him. He is the Incharge of MQM Unit 29, Sector Lyari.

4. The personnel of Nabi Bux Police Station raided the residence of Mohammad Nawab and arrested him. He is the Incharge of MQM Unit 31, Sector Lyari.

5. The personnel of Korangi Police Station arrested Israr Ahmed, Incharge of MQM Unit 75, Sector Korangi.

30 December 1998

The personnel of New Karachi Police Station raided the residence of Kamran son of Ghyas Uddin in North Karachi and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Unit 134-A, Sector North Karachi. The Police are demanding Rs. 1,00,000 from his family as bribe for his release.

28 December 1998:

  1. At around 6:30 p.m., the personnel of CIA raided the area of Rizvia Society and arrested Syed Qaisar Abbas Rizvi 25, son of Syed Khaliq Hussain Rizvi, resident of 97/ 3, near Rizvia High School, Gulbahar, Nazimabad Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 188, Sector Nazimabad-Gulbahar.
  2. At around 10 p.m., the personnel of CIA and the personnel of New Karachi Police Station raided the residence of Zia Mehdi in North Karachi. As he was not present in house, therefore, the raiding party arrested his younger brother Raza Mehdi 23, son of Mustafa Hussain. Zia Mehdi is a worker of MQM North Karachi. The raiding party took away two-telephone sets, one chequebook, video film of the marriage, several family photographs and telephone diary from the house.
