HOUSE OF AFZAL ANWAR MPA, AN ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE BELONGING TO THE MQM RAIDED BY CIA AND POLICE

Today, at around 1.10 a.m., heavy contingent of CIA and Police, led by Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Nazimabad and SHO Chaudhry Aslam raided the residence of Afzal Anwar MPA, belonging to the MQM. Fortunately Afzal Anwar and his family were not present in the house. The raiding party ransacked the house and looted the valuables.

You may recall that Chaudhry Aslam is one of the notorious police officers involved in the extra-judicial executions of innumerable MQM workers and supporters. Since the imposition of Governor Rule in Sindh, he has been involved in raiding the houses of innocent MQM workers and arresting them on false charges.

Furthermore, Rashid Kamali and Ehtesham Kamali, brothers of Irshad Kamali, Member of Central Co-ordination Committee of MQM, who were arrested on 31 December 1998, are being subjected to most inhuman and brutal torture at the hands of SHO Rao Anwar.

In other incidents, following MQM workers and supporters were arrested:

  1. At around 2.30 a.m., plain clothed personnel of law enforcement agencies raided the temporary residence of Mustafa Kamal in Sector 11-B, North Karachi, and arrested his young brother Mohammad Iqbal Siddiqui 28, son of Azeem Ur Rehman Siddiqui. He is a resident of 1/147 Liaquatabad, Karachi. Mustafa Kamal is a worker of MQM Unit 165, Sector Liaquatabad.
  2. At around 4 a.m., the personnel of Baghdadi Police Station raided the residence of Afaq Uddin, Joint Incharge of MQM Burns Road Sector. In his absence they arrested his brother Mushtaq Uddin 18, son of Akhlaq. He is a resident of 13/7, AH, Ratan Talao, Akbar Road, Karachi.
