RECENT REPORTS OF RAIDS AND ARRESTS OF MQM WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS BY THE PERSONNEL OF POLICE AND OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN THE URBAN CENTRES OF SINDH, SOUTHERN PROVINCE OF PAKISTAN

23 February 2001
The personnel of Orangi Town Police Station raided the temporary residence of Mohammad Akram and arrested him with his younger brother Mohammad Irfan.  Mohammad Akram 30, son of Mohammad Ishaq resident of Orangi Town, Sector 12, Karachi is a Joint In-charge of MQM Unit 122, Qasba Ali Garh Sector, Karachi.  He is being subjected to brutal tortured.  Those arrested are detained at unknown destination.

At around 11.45am, the personnel of CIA Police arrested Mohammad Islam, a worker of MQM Unit 188, Sector Nazimabad from the City Court in Karachi, Pakistan. Mohammad Islam had gone to the City Court to attend a court hearing when the CIA personnel arrested him. He was immediately subjected to brutal torture within the court premises. According to eye-witnesses, he was kicked, punched and beaten with batons and rifle butts. It is reported that the raiding party was led by ASI Riaz.

11 February 2001
Mohammad Ramzan 23, son of Mangay Khan, younger brother of Ali Hassan, an office bearer of MQM Labour Division and a worker of MQM Unit 69, Sector Korangi, is reported missing.  According to reports, he went to shopping in Landhi No 6, Karachi on 11 February 2001 at around 10am.  Since then his whereabouts are not known.  It is strongly apprehended that he has either been kidnapped by the Haqiqi terrorists or unlawfully arrested by the Police.

At around 9.30am, the personnel of Korangi Police Station arrested Kamran son of Ata Ur Rehman from the premises of the City Court in Karachi, Pakistan. Kamran, who is a worker of MQM Unit 74, Sector Korangi, had gone to the City Court to attend a court hearing. It is learnt that he is being brutally tortured in police custody. Despite all the efforts of hisfamily members and the Members of the MQM Coordination Committee, his whereabouts are not known. It is strongly apprehended that his life is in danger.

KILLERS OF LIAQUAT HABIB MUST BE APPREHENDED IMMEDIATELY.

The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has condemned the brutal killing of Liaquat Habib by the Haqiqi Terrorist. Liaquat Habib was the nephew of Mr M A. Jalil Member Central Co-ordination Committee and Former Provincial Education Minister. In their statement they have said that the government has totally failed to save the lives of innocent people and has given the terrorists a free hand to operate. According to the information, Liaquat Habib was kidnapped from Karachi co-operative Society, brutally tortured to death and his dead body was thrown in his car. There were marks of knife cuts on his body, his legs were tied and his throat was cut. For the last several months Liaquat Habib was receiving life threats by the Haqiqi Terrorist. The Members of Central Coordination Committee has expressed their condolence with the family members of Liaquat Habib and prayed that may God rest his soul in peace. The Coordination Committee demanded the government to arrest Haqiqi Terrorist and ensure the safety of people.

The personnel of CIA Hyderabad have arrested Abdul Rasheed, a worker of MQM Unit 26, Sector G, Hyderabad, Pakistan.  He is being unlawfully detained at the CIA torture cell, where he is being brutally tortured.

At around 4am, the personnel of New Karachi Police Station led by ASI Imtiaz Malik raided the residence of Rizwan and Habib, workers of MQM Unit 134-C, Sector North Karachi.  They conducted three more raids the same day till 1pm.  During these raids the police personnel misbehaved with the family members and subjected them to torture.

The personnel of Inspector General (IG) Police led by Sub Inspector Khurram arrested Imran, younger brother of MQM worker Sohail of MQM Unit 72, Sector Korangi from a Bus Stop in Korangi, Karachi.  Imran Ahmed 18, son of Zameer Ahmed is a resident of House No 326-N, Korangi 3-1/2, Karachi, Pakistan.

LIFE IN DANGER: The personnel of paramilitary rangers raided the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Head Office and arrested Mohammad Naeem.  Mohammad Naeem is a former office bearer and an active worker of MQM Unit 131, Sector Lyari.  He was immediately taken to unknown destination where he is being brutally tortured and pressurised to sign pre-written confessional statement.  According to most recent reports due to persistent and brutal torture his medical condition is very critical and is strongly feared that his life is in extreme danger.  On 7 February 2001, he was produced before the court to further extend his physical remand but witnessing his condition even the court denied this request and ordered for immediate medical treatment.  He is suffering from multiple fractures in his arms and legs as a result of the torture. He was bleeding when he was presented before the court.  As a result of this barbaric torture it is strongly apprehended that he might be extra-judicially executed in police custody.

Mohammad Naeem 24, son of Ghulam Mohammad, is a resident of My Choice Gali, Ramswami, Karachi, Pakistan.

1. At around 5.30pm, Mirza Ehsan Baig was in Korangi when the Mobile of Korangi Police Station unlawfully arrested him. Mirza Ehsan Baig 40, son of Mirza Sultan Baig is a worker of MQM Unit 76, Sector Korangi.  He is a resident of House No 41, Gali No 1, Sector 50-A, Madina Colony, Korangi, Karachi.

2. At around 8pm, the personnel of Korangi Police arrested Gulfam, a worker of MQM Unit 76, brother of Mirza Ehsan Baig from near his house.

3. The Korangi Police also arrested another MQM worker Rehman son of Abdul Ghaffar, brother of Raheem.  He is a resident of House No 238, Area ST-19, Madina Colony, Korangi, Karachi.

The personnel of Police and CIA Police led by Station House Officer (SHO) Faseeh Ahmed raided the residence of Kamal Akhtar Ansari, the worker of MQM Unit 132, Sector Qasbah Aligarh, and unlawfully arrested him.  He was immediately taken to the police torture cell where he is being subjected to brutal torture.  Kamal Akhtar Ansari 35, son of Mohammad Muslim Ansari, is a resident of House No 83, Qasbah Colony, Manghopir Road, Karachi, Pakistan.

At around 8am, Shamim Baig left his residence to go to his work.  When he reached T-Ground in Federal B Area, Karachi, two masked gunmen on motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire upon him.  Shamim Baig was shot in the head and died on the spot.

Shamim Baig 45, son of Azeem Baig, was the brother-in-law of Arshad Nadeem who is the joint incharge of MQM Unit 147, Sector Federal B Area.  He was the resident of House No 1709/15, Federal B Area, Karachi, Pakistan.

1. At around midnight, the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station arrested Babu Bhai, a worker of MQM Orangi Town.

2. At around midnight, the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station arrested Mohammad Arif from his residence in Data Nagar, Karachi.  Mohammad Arif 20, son of Abdul Aziz, is a worker of MQM Unit 130, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of Data Nagar, Karachi, Pakistan.

3. At around midnight, the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station arrested Murad from his house.  Murad 22, son of Anwar, is a worker MQM Unit 130, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of Data Nagar, Karachi, Pakistan.

4. At around midnight, the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station arrested Mohammad Shafiq from his residence.  Mohammad Shafiq 17, son of Sana Ullah is a worker of MQM Unit 130, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of Data Nagar, Karachi, Pakistan.

In the morning of 21 January 2001, the personnel of Mominabad Police Station raided the residence of Mohammad Asif and arrested him.  Mohammad Asif 24, son of Mohammad Mukhtar, is a supporter of MQM Unit 131, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of House No 346, Sector 1-D, Orangi Town No 1, Karachi, Pakistan.

1.  At around 8pm, the personnel of Mominabad Police Station arrested Mohammad Asif from Sheesha Chowk in Mominabad, Karachi.  Mohammad Asif 22, son of Mohammad Basheer, is a worker of MQM Unit 131, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of House No 2-A/61, Gulfamabad, Orangi Town No 1, Karachi, Pakistan.

2.  At around 8pm, the personnel of Mominabad Police Station arrested Mohammad Naveed from Sheesha Chowk in Mominabad, Karachi.  Mohammad Naveed 22, son of Mohammad Yaseen is a worker of MQM Unit 131, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of House No 2-A/59, Gulfamabad, Orangi Town No 1, Karachi.

3.  At around 8pm, the personnel of Mominabad Police Station arrested Mansoor from Sheesha Chowk in Mominabad, Karachi.  Mansoor 24, son of Mohammad Ramzan is a worker of MQM Unit 131, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of House No 1765, Sector 1-D, Orangi Town No 1, Karachi, Pakistan.

4.  At around 8pm, the personnel of Mominabad Police Station arrested Tahir Mirza from Sheesha Chowk in Mominabad, Karachi.  Tahir Mirza 25, son of Aftab Mirza is a worker of MQM Unit 131, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of Orangi Town, Karachi.

At around 1.30pm, the Haqiqi terrorists kidnapped an MQM worker Aman Ullah son of Hidayat Ullah from Korangi Unit 76.  Aman Ullah was taken to the torture cell of Haqiqi terrorists and subjected to brutal torture.

KIDNAP AND MURDER OF MQM WORKER KASHIF
16 January 2001
At around 2 p.m. (Pakistan Time), the Haqiqi terrorists under the protection of Intelligence Agencies kidnapped Mohammad Kashif Farooq son of Mohammad Umer Farooq and took him to their torture cell.  Mohammad Kashif Farooq was brutally tortured and then shot dead from point blank range.  At around 7 p.m. (Pakistan Time), the Haqiqi Terrorists dumped his dead body at Bilal Colony in Korangi, Karachi, Pakistan. 

Mohammad Kashif Farooq 18, son of Mohammad Umer Farooq was a resident of House No 923, Sector E-33, Korangi No 2-1/2, Karachi.  He was the brother of MQM worker Asif of Unit 71, Sector Korangi.

It is strongly apprehended that the Haqiqi terrorists under the protection of intelligence agencies kidnapped Mohammad Kashif Farooq because of his relation with Asif, who is a very active worker of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM). 

Despite the fact that the brutal murder of Mohammad Kashif Farooq has been committed by the Haqiqi terrorists, no action has been taken so far to apprehend the culprits, which further strengthens the fact that these Haqiqi terrorists are operating under the full protection and patronage of the intelligence agencies of the country.

Haqiqi terrorists along with plain clothed personnel of intelligence agencies are roaming freely in different part of the city and terrorising the area residents.  They are openly displaying arms (i.e. Kalashinkovs and other lethal weapons) by riding on motorcycles.  There have been numerous incidents when these terrorists have threatened and beaten up the area residents, including the shopkeepers.  They are also chasing, kidnapping and even murdering MQM workers.

In the morning the Orangi Town Police raided the residence of an MQM worker Hameed in Sector 8/L, Orangi Town, Karachi.  In his absence they arrested his nephew Mohammad Rafiq 13, son of Qurban.

At around 8pm, the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station led by ASI Aslam Rathore raided the residence of Abdul Rauf Mughal and arrested him.  Abdul Rauf Mughal 35, son of Abdul Shakoor, is a worker of MQM Unit 130, Sector Qasbah Aligarh.  He is a resident of Sector 7/F, Al-Muslim Abad, Karachi, Pakistan.

The personnel of CIA Police Saddar arrested Arshad Iqbal from his temporary residence.  Arshad Iqbal 35, son of Rehmat Elahi is a worker of MQM Unit 22, Sector Burns Road.  He is a resident of Flat 7, Rehman Manzil, AM 18, Akbar Road, Ratan Talao, Karachi, Pakistan.
