MQM TO CONSULT PUBLIC ABOUT REMAINING IN THE COALITION

KARACHI: 15TH DECEMBER 2010:

An emergency meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement took place in Pakistan and London simultaneously in which the rapidly changing political situation, separation of Jamiat Uluma-e-Islam (JUI) from the coalition, the attitude of the ruling party towards MQM despite its being an allied party, prejudicial and provocative speech made by Provincial Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and the efforts of MQM for promoting unity among Muslims during the month of Muharram came under deliberations and the future course of action for the party was decided.

It was stressed in the meeting that MQM being a democratic political party believed in resolving political difference through mutual understanding and negotiations.  MQM does not resort to emotionalism for taking important decisions instead it takes into considerations the wishes of the people in the larger interest of the country. MQM considers the differences of opinion between allied parties as an essence of democracy and it is because of this that MQM did not support any steps of the government taken against the interest of the people.

The meeting condemned the unwarranted inflammatory speech of Provincial Home Minister and baseless allegations against MQM and termed it a conspiracy to sow the seeds of hatred between the permanent residents of the province and a nefarious attempt the divide Sindh. It was said in the meeting that if bigoted and inflammatory speech of the Home Minister was not the policy of the ruling party then why no notice was taken by President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani so far.

The meeting unanimously called upon the leadership of the Peoples Party and its Central Executive Committee to explain whether the inflammatory speech of the Home Minister and the revulsive language used by him in order to create hatred among the people of Sindh were the personal opinion of the Home Minister or the policy of the party? After ten days MQM would be free to take a decision about remaining in the coalition after consulting with its workers, office-bearers and the public.

It was declared in the meeting that during the past five years MQM opposed all steps that were against the interest of the people of Sindh despite being in government  without considering about the fall-outs.

The meeting termed the separation of JUI (F) from the coalition as their democratic right and called upon the government to treat the allied parties as equal partners and refrain from inappropriate attitude. It further asked the government to remove the reservations of the allied parties in the interest of democracy.

It was also said that maintaining peace and tranquillity during the month of Muharram was the top most priority of MQM and it will continue to promote religious and sectarian harmony amongst the people.

MESSAGE ON THE FALL OF EAST PAKISTAN

LONDON: 15TH DECEMBER 2010

The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement has said that we must learn from the tragedy of East Pakistan and the fall of Dacca. In a message on the occasion of the fall of Dacca on 16th December Mr Altaf Hussain said that the tragedy occurred due to the inability of the rulers that resulted in loss of precious lives of thousands of people. Paying rich tribute to the martyrs of the tragedy of East Pakistan he said that the country fell apart due to the wrong policies of imprudent rulers. He warned that once again the same attitudes are adopted which are creating disappointments and frustrations. He regretted that instead of learning from the mistakes of the past the same policies are being adopted, resulting in the division of the country. He stressed upon the need of promoting national unity and accepting the mandate of each other. He said that the time had come to give complete provincial autonomy to all the provinces and for taking practical steps for removing disappointments and frustrations of the people of smaller provinces.
