IMPOSITION OF NAZIM FROM ISLAMABAD WILL BE UNACCEPTABLE- RABITA COMMITTEE

Karachi - 30 August 2005

The Members of the Central Coordination Committee (Rabita Committee) of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned reports published in different newspapers that the City Nazim of Karachi would be imposed from Islamabad. They said that the Haq Parast Panel has recorded a landslide victory in Karachi and other parts of Sindh as a result of day and night untiring work and support of its thousands of workers and millions of supporters and voters. They further added that millions of supporters and voters have elected Haq Parast candidates belonging to their constituencies and they will never accept an imposed Nazim from Islamabad.

The Members of the Central Coordination Committee have condemned such reports and termed that imposition of Nazim would be undemocratic, immoral, unethical, unjust and violates plethora of international laws and conventions. They added that it also tantamounts to denying the right of the people at the grass root level to govern and infringement of the will of millions of voters who have voted conscientiously having awareness of their genuine grievances that need to be addressed.  They stated that the millions of voters and supporters firmly believe that their local councillors and UC Nazims would have the full awareness and knowledge of their problems right to the grass root level and they have every right to elect the best Town Nazims and the City Nazim.

The Members of the Central Coordination Committee emphasised that the workers and supporters of the Haq Parast Panel remained totally peaceful during both phases of the Local Bodies Elections by exercising total restraint, not retaliating or losing their temper and patience despite brutalities, torture inflicted upon them; burning of their election camps and other high handedness employed by the hooligans of the opponent parties.

The Members of the Central Coordination Committee appealed to the President General Parvez Musharraf, the Prime Minister Mr Shaukat Aziz, The Governor of Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan and the Chief Minister of Sindh Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim to take serious notice of these news reports, which are creating confusion amongst the masses.
