LOANS INCLUDING PRINCIPAL AND INTERESTS BE WAIVED OF SMALL LANDOWNERS AND AGRICULTURALISTS OF SINDH PROVINCE - ALTAF HUSSAIN

London-12 August 2004

Mr Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has called for the waiver of the principal and interests on the longstanding loans of poor and small landholders and agriculturalists of Sindh. He said that it would be extremely unfair if the grievances of small landowners and agriculturalists of Sindh province were not addressed. He said that governments after governments facilitated privileges of writing off loans and interests of big industrialists and feudal lords amounting to billions of Rupees while totally ignored the poor landowners who are struggling to earn meager means for their families and children’s survival.

Concluding his statement he said that the MQM would continue to struggle for the rights of Sindh and its oppressed people. He reiterated that the oppressed and downtrodden has a right to develop and their rights must be defended on all forums.
