MQM SUPPORTER MOHAMMAD TAHIR BRUTALLY SHOT DEAD BY POLICE IN KORANGI, KARACHI

RAIDS AND ARRESTS OF MQM WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS CONTINUES

19 August 2001: In a brutal incident of highhandedness, the personnel of police shot dead Mohammad Tahir, an MQM supporter of Korangi. According to details, in the evening, Mohammad Tahir along with another MQM supporter Asrhaf was returning home in his car (Regn #CL-6804) after attending a wedding ceremony in P&T Colony, Karachi, when the personnel of Ibrhaim Hyderi Police Station followed him on a motorcycle. The policemen, namely Sohail and Farooq, came near the car and opened indiscriminate fire upon 35-year-old Mohammad Tahir. As a result Mohammad Tahir died on the spot whereas his friend Ashraf was seriously injured. There were several eyewitnesses to this murder. The area residents agitated with the incident immediately reacted and apprehended both the police personnel and handed them over to the Authorities. Mohammad Tahir was the resident of Bhitai Colony, Korangi, Karachi. He has about to get married in two months.

Dr Imran Farooq, MQM Convenor, has strongly condemned the murder of innocent Mohammad Tahir at the hands of the trigger-happy police personnel. He has termed this act as ruthless and brutal. He demanded for an immediate arrest and legal persecution of the culprits involved.

19 August 2001: At around 4 a.m., the Personnel of Orangi Town Police Station, led by Mahmood Ul Hasan alias Mooda, raided the residence of Arshad Iqbal, a worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Qasba Aligarh. In his absence they arrested his two younger brothers, 15-year-old Shahid Iqbal and 17-year-old Asif Iqbal. The raiding party has threatened the family to produce Arshad Iqbal in exchange for the freedom of Shahid Iqbal and Asif Iqbal.
