SC seeks replies in case against electoral practices in Pak

ISLAMABAD, (SANA): Supreme Court of Pakistan has sought replies from all respondents including Federation during the hearing of a case against the permissible Electoral Practices in Pakistan.

A three-member bench of Apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the petition filed by Workers Party Pakistan through its General Secretary on Monday.

During the course of hearing counsel for Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Asif Tauseef filed a written reply and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz filed an application for impleadment as party in the case, while Attorney General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq stated that Frederation has no attention to defend the case.

Meanwhile counsel for JI stated that his client endorsed the stance of the petitioner, adding that it is included in the manifesto of JI that expenses on election campaigns should be minimized.

The counsel for PML-N Naseer Bhutta said that a poor citizen can not contest election due to prevailing system of elections so his client wants to become a party.

The petitioner Abid Hassan Minto contended that election process has been start in the country, adding thatcourt should direct to Election Commission of Pakistan to make assure the transparent elections in the country.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in his remarks said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was a party, which brings the common man to the fore in elections.

Chief Justice remarked that MQM members do not even have a car adding that MQM ensured the common man’s participation in Karachi elections, where election expenditures incurred were even less than one million.

Later the court summoning the written replies from all respondents has adjourned the hearing till today.
