ALTAF HUSSAIN’S APPEAL TO SHUJAAT HUSSAIN AND PERVEZ ELAHI FOR COOPERATION IN CARRYING OUT A PEACEFUL RALLY IN PROTEST OF RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM

London 21 April 2007

The MQM leader Mr. Altaf Hussain has appealed to the President of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Ch. Shujaat Hussain and the Chief Minister of Punjab Ch. Pervez Elahi that Pakistan, on the one hand is passing through a very critical phase, on the other the religious extremists through announcing the Baton bearing and Kalashnikov Shariah are spoiling the country’s and religion’s image thorough out the world. This is about time that moderate and democratic minded liberal forces should not only act but also inform the world at large about the thoughts of the people of Pakistan and the true sprit of Islamic teachings. I ask the President of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Ch. Shujaat Hussain and the Chief Minister of Punjab Ch. Pervez Elahi to cooperate with us in organising a peaceful rally in Punjab against the religious extremism and Baton bearing and Kalashnikov bearing Shariah. He pointed out that rally is organised on ideological grounds and is not to score political points. He also appealed to the leaders of Muslim League (Q) to ask their workers and office bearers to participate in the rally in large numbers to enhance the image of Pakistan and Islam and to convey the true sprit of Islam. I will be very thankful of them.
