Feudal system is the fountainhead of feudal thought -- Altaf Hussain

London … 25 April 2007

The MQM Founder & Leader Mr. Altaf Hussain stated that a prevailing system of government has an impact upon the mentality of the people and the feudal system is the fountainhead of feudal thought. He was addressing a gathering of intellectuals and other segment of society at the ground breaking ceremony of ‘Nasir-Arif Hussain Memorial Library in Federal B area, Karachi. This library is being launched in the memory of Mr. Hussain‘s elder brother Nasir Hussain Shaheed and nephew Arif Hussain Shaheed.

The foundation stone of the library was laid by Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan, the City Nazim Karachi Mr. Mustafa Kamal, the renown intellectual Dr. Farman Fatehpuri, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University Dr. Pirzada Qasim, Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin Khan and many MQM Coordination Committee members, Ministers, Members of Parliament and others were present in the ceremony. Mr. Altaf Hussain in his thought provoking address stressed that there is need to bring about revolution in the minds of the people and not by bloodshed. He said that education and knowledge instils humanity, honesty and truth among mankind. Wherever there is education there is bound to be progress and prosperity and justice will prevail. God lanes education and knowledge. Both Nasir Hussain and Arif Hussain were very found of education. My brother‘s widow decided to donate their home for the pursuant of knowledge, which would no doubt please the sprits of her loved ones because their residence is going to be used for educational purposes. Mr. Hussain lamented that in Pakistan we have not been successful in introducing a long-lasting system of education. On the face of it we are a free nation but in reality the nation is slaved under the yolk of feudal culture. The MQM has chosen a peaceful path to change the prevailing system by educating the masses and reforming their thoughts.  Regrettably individuals prefer to strive for their vested interest rather than work to change the outdated system. Feudalism perpetuates ethno-linguistic particularism among people who devote their energies in persuit of personal gains, whereas ordinary masses become complacent and futuristic. Our intellectuals, journalists and columnists wrote about superficial political changes but do not identity the real ills of the society. This attitude perpetuates the game of musical chair. He concluded by stating that education and reform in the system is the only route to perpetuates ethno linguistic particularise in our society.
