REPORTS OF ATROCITIES UPON MQM WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS BY THE GOVERNMENT OF NAWAZ SHARIF

4 April 1999

The personnel of Eidgah Police Station raided the residence of Ahmed and arrested him with any charges. Ahmed son of Mohammad Yameen is a Joint Incharge of MQM Ranchoor Line Sector, Karachi.

3 April 1999

At around 5:30 a.m., the personnel of Sharifabad Police Station, led by SHO Sarwar alias Commando and Inspector Qamar Ahmed raided the residence of Nasir Shah and arrested him with warrant. Nasir Shah is a worker of MQM Unit 164, Sector Liaquatabad, Karachi. The raiding party misbehaved with the family and looted cash Rs. 50,000, jewellery, video recorder, television set and family photographs.

2 April 1999

  1. At around 2:30 a.m., heavy contingent of Garden Police and other law enforcement agencies, raided the residence of Liaquat Qureshi MPA (Member of Provincial Assembly) belonging to the MQM. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with the family.

  2. At around 5:30 a.m., personnel of CIA and other law enforcement agencies raided the residence of Shoaib. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with family.

  3. The personnel of Garden Police Station raided the temporary residence of Shahid and arrested him with two workers of MQM Unit 32, Sector Lyari, Karachi. Those arrested:
  1. Shahid 25, son of Abdul Khaliq.
  2. Naeem 23, son Nisar Ahmed.
  3. Abdul Saboor 26, son of Fajar Ali.
  1. At around 9:30 p.m., the personnel of Eidgah Police Station raided the residence of Ahmed. He is a Joint Incharge of MQM Sector Ranchoor Line. In his absence they arrested his two brothers Mohammad Ali and Liaquat.

At around 4:30 p.m., the personnel of Nazimabad Police Station raided a Service Station and arrested Mohammad Riaz 18, son of Ijazul Haque. He is a supporter of MQM.

30 March 1999

  1. At around 5:30 p.m., Mr. Zahid Quraishi, MPA (Member of Provincial Assembly Sindh) was arrested by Liaquatabad Police along with his driver Mr. Aurangzaib and Mr. Wali an elderly worker of the MQM. Mr. Zahid Quraishi had gone to his constituency Liaquatabad to greet his constituents on the occasion of Eid ul Azha.

  2. At around 5:20 p.m., elderly worker of MQM Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed and another person were arrested by Gulbahar Police. The Police confiscated hundreds of hides they were carrying. Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed was handcuffed and manhandled by the Police. He is still in detention.

  3. At 1:20 p.m., Ghuzanfar Kazmi SHO, Azizabad Police Station along with a large number of security personnel in plain clothes armed with Kalashnikovs and other automatic weapons came to the MQM head office Nine Zero parked their vehicles White highroof CJ 6048, Green highroof CG 7841, Yellow cab PJ 1866 and a CIA mobile GS 3783. He chased the MQM workers who were sitting outside the Nine Zero. Abused and harassed women and elderly persons and ordered them to stop working for the MQM, he said that if they would not does ordered than they would be arrested and then rot in jail.

  4. At around 12:30 p.m. PST, Mr Tariq Jawaid MNA was stopped by the police, abused and threatened for working for MQM.

  5. The personnel of CIA and Surjani Police Station raided the residence of Mausoom. In his absence they arrested his two sons in law.
  1. Shaikh Ismail 24, son of Shaikh Ameer.
  2. Nadeem 28, son of Ryasat Ali.

29 March 1999

  1. At around 1:45 a.m., the personnel of Nabi Buksh Police Station, raided the residence of Dilshad and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Labour Division. Dilshad 24, son of Fazuluddin is a resident of Ranchoor Line, Karachi.

  2. At around 1 p.m., the personnel of Azizabad Police Station, led by SHO Ghuzanfar Kazmi raided the residence of Khurram and arrested him. Khurram 30, son of Altaf Nabi is a worker of MQM Unit 153, Sector Federal B Area, Karachi.

  3. At around 12 p.m., the personnel of Azizabad Police Station, led by SHO Ghuzanfar Kazmi raided the residence of Ms. Waqar, and misbehaved with her family.

27 March 1999

  1. At around 9 p.m., the personnel of Preedi Police Station raided the shop of Naeem Ahmed and arrested him. He is a brother of Nadeem Ahmed (Member of MQM Muttahida Organising Committee) and a resident of Shafqat House, Din Mohammad Wafai Road, near S.M Arts and Commerce College, Karachi.

  2. Early morning, the personnel of New Karachi Police Station raided the temporary residence of Mohammad Ashraf and arrested him along with two cousins, Nazakat Ali, and Liaquat Ali sons of Shaukat Ali. Mohammad Ashraf 24, son of Noor Mohammad is Incharge of MQM Unit 108-A and Ex Counsellor. He was detained at the New Karachi Police Station, and subjected to most brutal torture.

  3. At around 3 a.m., the personnel of Mahmoodabad Police Station raided the residence of Naeem, Member of MQM Mahmoodabad Sector Committee. In his absence they ransacked the house, misbehaved with the family members.

26 March 1999

  1. The personnel of Mirpurkhas Police Station raided the house of Shabbir Quaimi and arrested him. Shabbir Quaimi 38, son of Bashir Ahmed is the Incharge of MQM Mirpurkhas Zone. He is detained at the Mirpurkhas Police Station.

  2. At around 3 a.m., the personnel of Saeedabad Police Station raided the residence of Ms Majeedan. She is a worker of MQM Ladies Wing, and arrested her two nephews Nadeem 23, and Shahid 25, sons of Subhan, and Zahid 28, son of Abdul Majeed, son-in-law Both were taken to Saeedabad Police Station, where they were brutally tortured by the law enforcement personnel.

  1. The personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station raided the house of Saeed Furqan Hussain and arrested him. Saeed Furqan Hussain 18, son of Saeed Farhat Hussain resident of Liaquatabad, Karachi. He is a cousin of Waseem Sherazi, is a worker of MQM Labour Division.

  2. The personnel of New Karachi Police Station, arrested Mohammad Ibrahim from near Sabir Cold Drink Shop, Sector 11-F, New Karachi, Karachi. Mohammad Ibrahim 38, son of Abdul Rehman, is the joint incharge of MQM Unit 142, Sector New Karachi and a resident of House L-38, Sector 11-G, New Karachi, Karachi.

23 March 1999

  1. At around 11 p.m., the personnel of P.I.B Police Station, led by SHO (Station House Officer) Hyder Baig raided the residence of Naeem, Joint Incharge, P.I.B Colony Sector, Karachi. In his absence the ransacked the house, misbehaved with the family and looted the cash video (V.C.R), T.V and family photographs.

  2. The personnel of P.I.B Police Station raided the house of Mustaqeem. He is a worker of MQM Unit 58, Sector P.I.B. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with his mother.

  3. Mohammad Nadeem 30, son of Mohammad Ikhlaq, resident of Sikandrabad, Liaquatabad, Karachi. He is a supporter of MQM. The personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station, led by SHO Sarwar alias Commando raided his resident and arrested him.

  4. The personnel of C.I.A Police arrested Shaukat 26, son of Atta Mohammad, from the Faqeer Colony, Karachi. He is a worker of MQM Unit 112, Sector Baldia Town, Karachi.

  5. The personnel of Saeedabad Police Station raided the temporary residence of Mahboob Ali and arrested him. Mahboob Ali 25, son of Rustam Ali is a worker of MQM Unit 112, Sector Baldia Town, Karachi.

  6. At around 6 p.m., the personnel of Kala Kot Police Station, raided the house of the Yaseen, Member of MQM, Muttahida Organising Committee (MOC). In his absence they arrested his brother Usman 30, son of Murad Ummer, and his nephew Adnan 14. They are being detained at the Kala Kot Police Station.

  7. The personnel of Azizabad Police Station, led by SHO Ghuzanfar Kazmi and other plain clothed personnel, arrested Younus 30, son of Khalil Khan from the street. He is a worker of MQM Unit 158, Sector Liaquatabad, Karachi.

  8. The personnel of Saeedabad Police Station raided the residence of Sarwar. He is a worker of MQM Unit 112, Sector Baldia Town, Karachi. In his absence they ransacked the house, mentally tortured and misbehaved with the family members.

22 March 1999

  1. At around 10 p.m., the personnel of Al Falah Police Station, led by SI (Sub Inspector) Tahseen Baig, raided the residence of Shakeel Jafri, worker of MQM Unit 103, Sector Shah Faisal Karachi. In his absence they ransacked the house, misbehaved with the family members and looted cash Rs, 30,000.

  2. The personnel of C.I.A police arrested Amir Aziz, from Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. Amir Aziz 28, son of Ghulam Sarwar, is a worker of MQM Unit Johar Square, Sector Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi.
  1. At around 2 a.m., the personnel of Al Falah Police Station, raided the residence of Saeed. In his absence they arrested his cousin Fayyaz Ahmed 24, son of Mohammad Rasheed. They ransacked the house and misbehaved with the family.

21 March 1999

At around 5:45 a.m., the personnel of Baldia Town, Gulbhar, Saeedabad and Orangi Town Police Stations raided the residence of Mohammad Yaseen 38, son of Asghar Ali, and arrested him. He is a Member of MQM Baldia Town Sector Committee, Karachi.

20 March 1999

At around 4:30 p.m., heavy contingent of police and other law enforcement agencies, led by notorious DSP Chodhary Aslam, arrested Nazim Uddin son of Hassam Uddin from a street. He is a worker of MQM Usmania Colony, Karachi.

19 March 1999

  1. The personnel of Orangi Town Extension Police Station raided the temporary residence of Syed Rehan Ali and arrested him, Syed Rehan Ali 30, son of Muslim Imam was temporarily residing in Gulshane Iqbal. He is a member of Orangi Town Sector Committee.

  2. At around 7:30 p.m., the personnel of C.I.A and Jamshed Quarter Police Station, raided the residence of Ameer Naqvi 35, son of Ali Ahmed Naqvi and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Gulistan-e-Johor Sector, Karachi.

  3. At around 3 a.m., the personnel of C.I.A, police raided the temporary residence of Mohammad Habib Safdar and arrested him. Mohammad Habib Safdar 28, son of Jameel Ahmed is an Incharge of MQM Unit 163, Sector Liaquatabad, Karachi.

18 March 1999

  1. At around 2:45 a.m., the personnel of Shah Faisal Police Station raided the residence of Naseer Uddin. He is a worker of MQM Labour Division. As he was not present in the house, the raiding party arrested his three sons.

  1. The personnel of Momanabad Police Station, led by Inspector Aslam raided the residence of Waseem Uddin and arrested him. Waseem Uddin 30, son of Moin Uddin is a worker of MQM Unit 120, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi.

  2. The personnel of C.I.A and Sharifabad Police Station, led by Sarwar alias Commando raided the temporary residence of Shujaat and arrested him. Shujaat 40, son of Sahfquat Ali is a worker of MQM Sector Liaquatabad, Karachi.

At around 3 a.m., the personnel of Orangi Town Police Station, led by SHO Haji Nadeem raided the residence of Mohi Uddin 27, son of Qamar Uddin and arrested him. He is the Incharge of MQM Sector Orangi Town, Karachi.

The personnel of Para Military Rangers and Police arrested Mehmood Hussain from Hydri. Mehmood Hussain son of Moazzam Hussain is a worker of MQM.

  1. The personnel of Sharifabad Police Station raided Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Nazimabad Karachi, and arrested Amin Uddin 25, son of Nazeer Uddin. He is a worker of MQM Unit 186, Sector Pak Colony, Karachi.
  1. The personnel of Gulbahar Police Station raided the residence of Mohammad Saleem and arrested him along with his father. Mohammad Saleem 30, Mohammad Ibrar is worker of MQM Unit 189, Sector Nazimabad, Karachi.

The personnel of CIA, Police and other law enforcement agencies raided the Karachi Airport Lounge and arrested Jaweed Ahmed Umer. Jaweed Ahmed Umer 22, son of Mohammad Ahmed Umer is brother of Shakeel Umer (Member of MQM Muttahida Organising Committee).

  1. At around 2:30 am., the personnel of Napier Police Station raided the temporary residence of Saleem Shaikh and arrested him. He is the Member of MQM, Muttahida Organising Committee (MOC)

  2. The personnel of Orangi Town Police Station raided the residence of Mohi Uddin. In his absence they ransacked the house and misbehaved with the family. He is a Incharge of MQM Orangi Town Sector.

  3. At around 4:30 a.m., the personnel of New Karachi Police Station, led by the ASI (Assistant Sub Inspector) Shahzad raided the residence of Shafi. In his absence they ransacked the house, misbehaved with the family and looted cash Rs. 25,000.

9 March 1999

  1. The personnel of Gulzar Hijri Police Station raided the residence of Jaffer Abdi 28, son of Abdi and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Unit Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sector Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi.

  2. The personnel of Gulzar Hijri Police Station raided the residence of Mujtaba Hussain Abdi 25, son of Abdi and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Unit Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sector Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi.

  3. The personnel of Gulzar Hijri Police Station raided the residence of Adnan Ismail 19, son of Ismail in Gulshan-e-Maymar, and arrested him. He is a worker of MQM Unit Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sector Gulistan-e-Johar. The raiding party took away television, furniture, family photographs and cash, Rs. 50,000 from the house.
  1. The personnel of Mehmoodabad Police Station raided the residence of Hanif. He is a Incharge of MQM Sector Mehmoodabad, Karachi. In his absence they are arrested his brother Jehangir 16, son of Murtaza Ali. They ransacked the house, mentally tortured and misbehaved with the family members.

7 March 1999

  1. At around 5:15 p.m., Paramilitary Rangers and Police raided the residence of Salman Hyder, 28, worker of MQM Unit 175, Sector North Nazimabad, and arrested him.

  2. At around 12:30 p.m., the personnel of CIA and PIB Police Station arrested Ibrar Alam 30, son of Azeem Ullah. He is a worker of MQM Unit 49, Sector P.I.B.

  3. At around 2 a.m., heavy contingent of Azizabad Police Station, led by notorious SHO (Station House Officer) Ghuzanfar Kazmi, raided the residence of Kamran in Azizabad, Karachi. As he was not present in the house. The raiding party arrested his mother and two younger sisters, Humaira Shakeel 18, and Kanwal Shakeel 10. Kamran is a Member of MQM Sector Committee of Federal B Area, Karachi.

6 March 1999

  1. At around 5 a.m., the personnel of Joharabad Police Station raided the residence of Nasir Anjum and arrested his brother Khalid Anjum 28, son of Mushtaque Ahmed. Nasir Anjum is Incharge of MQM Sector Federal B Area, Karachi.

  2. At around 3:30 a.m., heavy contingent of Police Line Department, raided the residence of Irshad Ahmed 26, son of Zafar Ahmed, and arrested him. He is the Joint Incharge of MQM Unit 49, Sector P.I.B, Karachi. The same police party raided the house of his uncle and arrested his brother Fayyaz Ahmed.

5 March 1999

  1. The personnel of CIA Police raided the temporary residence of Mohammad Farid 25, son of Mohammad Ibrahim and arrested him. He is the worker of MQM Unit 75, Korangi Sector, Karachi.

  2. At around 3:40 p.m., the CIA, Police and other law enforcement agencies raided the Daraz Milk Shop, Lee Market, Karachi and arrested three MQM workers of Unit 112, Sector Baldia Town. Those who were arrested are:

i- Muneer Anjum 35, son of Mohammad Buksh.
ii- Haji Iqbal 35, son of Mohammad Ramdan.
iii- Shahid 30, son of Abdul Aziz.

The personnel of Orangi Town Police Station, Karachi raided the temporary residence of Riaz Uddin in Hyderabad and arrested him. Riaz Uddin 25, son of Siraj Uddin is a worker of MQM Unit 125, Sector Orangi Town, Karachi. Presently, he was detained at Orangi Town Police Station.

At around 12:30 p.m., the CIA, police and other law enforcement agencies raided the Humdard Laboratory Pakistan, and arrested Abdul Salam 38, son of Abdul Shakoor. He is a worker of MQM Labour Division, and Ex Counsellor of Nazimabad, Karachi.

1 March 1999

  1. The personnel of G.O.R Police Station raided the residence of Salah Uddin. He is a worker of MQM Unit 29, Hyderabad Zone. In his absence they arrested his brother Qamar Uddin son of Sharf Uddin.

  2. At around 1:30 p.m., heavy contingent of police and other law enforcement agencies arrested Iqbal Ahmed from the street. He is a member of MQM Unit 4, Hyderabad Zone, Hyderabad.
